“Hollywood Drivel”

★★☆☆☆

written by glenc on 22/05/2012

I watched this film as I've always been a fan of the war genre and my wife loves the horse genre - ideal film surely?!

Hmm - maybe not!

It was just drivel - the loose plot is that the film follows a horse as it meanders through life, having multiple owners, going from one odd scenario to the next.

One example of the daftness of the plot; the horse was owned by a boy in peace time - then the horse is taken to war by different person - the boy misses the horse so much that he enrols in the army. The horse has since been through a couple of other owners (most transient horse ever!?) and would you believe it, out of the 1000's of miles of trenches in war time Europe, the boy (now a man) stumbles across his horse that happens to be in no mans land and is rescued by a British solider and German soldier (who become buddies in no mans land)

Really unbelievable stuff - and I mean that in the 'its completely nonsense' sense.

As I say, it's just a daft Hollywood adaptation, taking things too far and making them so unbelievable that it detracts from some of the good aspects of the film - ie some of the camera work, scenes of war and other aspects are actually quite good.

"Could have done better" is my summary. Avoid!
