Segedunum is the Roman fort at the end of Hadrian's Wall. It is a modern centre with a tall viewing tower, mini-cinemas, kids activities, dressing up, reconstructed bath-house and lots and lots of information about the Wall and the Wallsend area after the Romans left. ( Coal mining, ship-building etc) You wouldn't go there to write your doctorate thesis but kids enjoy the learning experiences on offer. Big site, many original structures and artifacts, good views of the Tyne. Nice little café. Friendly, helpful, knowledgeable staff. Free car park. Well signed.
