“Terrible service ”

★☆☆☆☆

written by JonnyManchester on 02/08/2023

We purchased a brand new caravan from them last year which was great but when we took it back for a service and a wash at around £340.00 we got our van back still dirty as it hadn't been cleaned properly.. The van was also handed back to us with it's front compartment latch missing, when I asked what had happened to it the service staff said it was already missing to which I found farcical as I had to unlock it for them in front of them... Needless to say they never replaced it.. And on getting the van ready for a trip we discovered the microwave was now no longer working We spent 10s of thousands with Preston caravans on a brand new van and have been brushed aside when we complaind I would be very cautious if using them for you're van service

“Not as Stated”

★☆☆☆☆

written by conwayfamily on 22/04/2023

I am very disgusted by the way I have been treated by PRESTON CARAVANS over the purchase of a WEINSBERG campervan from their hire fleet. It is only my second purchase of a vehicle of this type so blame my own lack of experience in part and feel that I have been taken for a fool which does not feel good at all. I was attracted initially by online advertising of a 3 year old 130hp (higher powered), Fiat Ducato based Weinsberg Carabus 600K which seem to exactly fit my requirements. After 3 visits to Preston from my home in Nottingham I drove away in the vehicle and traded in my beloved Ford Transit which by then had 90,000 on the clock. It was only after getting the V5 back from DVLC and checking all the paperwork carefully that I realised the vehicle sold to me by Preston Caravans wasn’t 130hp at all but the lower powered 120hp model which according to my local Fiat dealers stopped being manufactured as a base model in 2016. I immediately contacted Preston Caravans then less than two weeks after the purchase and after initially ignoring me, did fully admit that a mistake had been made in advertising the vehicle incorrectly which they claimed to not be deliberate and to have no financial consequences. In the circumstances, they had little choice but to offer me a full refund although my previous vehicle could no longer be returned and they have not been prepared to countenance any compensation for my consequential losses which as anyone would appreciate would be considerable. I am now left with the unenviable choice of taking back the vehicle to Preston Caravans for a refund that does not include my consequential costs and not even leaving me a vehicle to drive away in OR to retain a vehicle that has been sold to me on misrepresented information which will be less powerful and with lower fuel economy than expected throughout it’s life for which Preston Caravans have offered to compensation me precisely nothing. Yes, we made a big mistake but no, we are not prepared to contribute anything towards the consequential costs of putting it right. They strike me as one of those dinosaur organisations who believe the customer is there to serve them rather than the other way around. Incidentally we also bought an uber expensive LPG gas bottle from them when we went to collect the vehicle which both their sales and service staff assured us was compatible with the fittings in the campervan. Not only was this proved to be complete nonsense but it has so far proved impossible to get the correct fittings to make this work so we are still using a single ring gas fitting from GO Outdoors for cooking. Seriously not impressed.

Preston caravans sales staff were always professional and helpful. They kept in touch with us during the process to keep us informed of what was going on. We are very pleased with the level of service provided.

“Simple selling experience with a trusted dealer ”

★★★★★

written by bocker53 on 22/03/2023

The whole experience is stress free when selling your caravan to Prestons. The money gets paid into your bank account so no worries of getting swindled with alternative methods of payment. You may or may not get a little more cash in a private sale, but how do they want to pay you ? The issue I find with that particular choice is the prospective buyer sees where it's located and what your security is like. A private buyer wants you to include awnings, locks etc. I, personally thought that I didn't need the hassle of a private sale so went to Prestons who I bought the caravan off and did a deal. Could not have been happier with the whole process and came away stress free.

Have used Preston caravans for a few years now. Always find them pleasant and very helpful. The lady in the stores is an absolute asset to them, if they dont have it in stock they will get it. Excellent service always.

“Simple roof panel replacement ”

★☆☆☆☆

written by AddysonHalsey on 17/08/2022

My caravan was vandalised and it was recommeded that i take my van to PCM as they were mfg agents. Thats when it started to wrong. It took 4 weeks to get the service people to call me to book in a slot to fit the new roof panel. I needed to visit to get this booked. Following our delivery to the site i was asked leave it for a week to allow them to fit it in amongst other jobs but charging me £100 plus vat for a 20 minute job. I was very surprised when i was called to request my uplist of the van as they were unable to carry out the work as the internal cassette was damaged. By chance a family friend asked to view the van and on inspection it was clear to see that the hinges were broken. PCM stated they would not offer any works on the van. Needless to say the old panel.was taped in place to keep it weatherproof however On our inspection we saw damage to the hinges however we have photographic evidence from the breakin thst hinges were in-fact undamaged. What a total sham. Either they have poor workshop supervision or they employ low grade trades people. Total waste of time and money 6-7 weeks for nothing. Defo no recommendations for this shabby crew.

“Bad brakes”

★☆☆☆☆

written by Derf1418 on 30/10/2021

We have a Swift challenger 580 2019 with Alko chassis and axle second view caravan purchased from Preston caravans, should have learnt. We had if services by a mobile reputable engineer in May 2021 who pointed out that the brakes drums and shoes were badly grooved the caravan had only done about 500 total because of Covid. The caravan was serviced by Preston caravan 12 months before with no mention of brake wear. A claim was put in to Alko which was excepted and now Alko, Swift and Preston caravans do not want to know. After the brake wear came to light i contacted Preston Caravans and told them we were going on a trip to 25th West Scotland and were conceded about the brakes i was told they would be safe to do the trip. Is there any caravan dealers who care about after sales.

“Avoid!! Beware! poor quaulity poor service ”

★☆☆☆☆

written by Alana316 on 27/10/2021

Purchased new van nothing but faults when you contact them no response then when you do get a response you find out the person you were dealing with has left. Was informed that we need to travel from Edinburgh for them to assess the van 400 miles there and back which we did to be told the fault not covered . Van was only used a few times then lockdown and we have cracks on 2 sides of the van. Water ingress due to historic fail on the front window rail, sink waste failed, end panel on the sofa came loose, to mention a few. Poor after sales, customer service non existent and they lack professionalism, once you have paid for your caravan they do not want to know. Stay clear of this company and keep your well earned money.

“DO NOT HAVE ANY WORK CARRIED OUT BY THIS COMPANY”

★☆☆☆☆

written by tuckerz77 on 26/08/2021

Do not have any work carried out by this company. They had fitted a satellite dome to a caravan that I have and the way it has been installed is terrible. Have used hardly any silicon seal where the cables run in to the caravan and only sealed on top of the cables!! Water has been running down the cable and into my caravan cupboard! After phoning them up they could not even book me in as a matter of urgency they told me to email and expect a reply within 5 working days. I could have done a better job fitting it myself! Avoid!

“Poor aftersales”

★☆☆☆☆

written by DerekGrindlay on 05/09/2019

Bought a new caravan in May and developed a fault within 3 months with the water pump system. After consulting Whale manufacturers and establishing what could be the problem Preston caravans insist that I must return caravan to Preston from Edinburgh so that they can establish fault and rectify. Cost of part under £100 and could be fitted by myself. Cost of fuel to return caravan would exceed cost of part let alone the 4.5 hour journey there and same back again. Should caravan have to be left for repair this would be doubled? To say I am disappointed would be an understatement. They have my money and it would appear they don't care? Would not recommend them and certainly will never be back again.

If you are an overseas customer and rely on honest fair descriptions of the caravan you will be in for a shock when it arrives. Once you have paid for your caravan the communication will stop. When the caravan finally arrives you will be in tears, nothing like description and no way will they answer your emails.

“What a shambles”

★★☆☆☆

written by Bryantw16 on 08/05/2018

We purchased a brand new motorhome, paid cash, water leak on the back push fitting pipe too short, oil leak on the engine, back to Peugeot, unable to fit low gas at point of sale, return journey, initially wrong number plates fitted, water heater stopped working needing re-setting return journey, wire hanging lose underneath where gas low had been installed, no paperwork for supposedly installed tracker still trying to register don't know what tracker is fitted, water pump now sounding like it's on it's last legs! other than all this returning to dealer we love our choice of vehicle, but Preston Caravans could be more customer orientated!

“Don't care once sold!”

★★☆☆☆

written by on 16/04/2018

Bought a new caravan, collected 7th April, went away 14th April. Firstly, there was a decal that had been put on incorrectly, waiting for the replacement and for that to be sorted. Secondly, and most importantly, on our first outing (in Scotland for the weekend) we went out for an hour to come back and find water running out of the back of the caravan Hubby discovered that the push fitting to the tap in the bathroom was faulty. Phone call to Preston Caravans only to be told after sales only work weekdays, he held out to speak to someone in sales They duly phoned him back only to end up having to go to a local caravan dealer and buy the required parts in their accessory shop. 5 hours later hubby had fixed the leak! They said they would phone back on Monday morning first thing - think they work in a different time zone - he got a call mid afternoon. Apology after apology but nothing to assuage the upset suffered. End result - send in the receipts for parts purchased and £50 off it's first service. Oh they would arrange to pick the caravan up and pressure test it! Do they really think I would entrust that to their incompetent staff - not a chance in hell. So come the time for the first service they will not be the ones undertaking the service, I will find a dealer who is nearer and shows more awareness of customer service. There are plenty of dealers out there, had I known that their after sales service was so shocking they would not have had my business in the first place. Swift Caravans are sold by lots of dealers, just that at the time they had the best offer. Buyer beware, the initial deal may be great, but woe betide you if anything goes wrong.

make sure you use the caravan this month in case there are any other faults. you have 30 days to get a full refund. I am trying to do this for a motorhome we bought off them . Their communication is the worst i have ever come across.
