“Generally disappointed - insurance replacement”

★★☆☆☆

written by GiantDefy4 on 09/05/2016

I was using wheelies as they are contract suppliers for replacements in my insurance.
Wheelies didn't have the type of bike I wanted and said as it was a replacement service rather than cash insurance I would just have to choose from their range but that I could sell the bike and buy the other one if I wanted.
Then I chose a bike from their range which was out of stock and they didn't know when they would get more.
I then chose a third option and added some extras to make it up to the cost as they don't give you back anything if you are under the amount of the insurance. They agreed to fit the extras and a delivery date was arranged. I would say that the people I spoke with on the phone were helpful and friendly and that was generally a good experience.
The main issue I had with this part of the process was I was told I had just under £650 to spend but when it came to paying what I thought would be £25 as I had got a better lock and decided to pay extra, I was then told that I also needed to pay the £50 excess. Clearly I didn't have £650 to spend so watch out for that little stinger if you're getting an insurance replacement.
The bike was delivered a day early so nobody was there, I tried 4 times to get through to DX deliveries by phone but was timed out every time with no answer.
The bike was delivered again next day and I got told off by the delivery driver as nobody had been at home the day before.
On receiving the bike the mud guards needed adjustment (which is fine, I would expect that really after the bike had been boxed up etc) but the front derailleur rubbed and needed adjustment and the tyres weren't pumped up as fully as I would have done them, although we're OK to use. As well as this it seems there was a slow puncture. I have been out on the bike so it's possible I could have picked this up after delivery so perhaps I shouldn't put it in the review but given I had noticed an issue with tyre pressure at the outset it does make me think that was probably the issue.
Overall pretty disappointed. I'm going to have to work on the bike to get it to the point of being enjoyable to ride and functioning without scraping itself, and sort out a puncture.
