Higham Fishing Lakes are situated on the A696 5 miles North of Ponteland in Northumberland. Transport links are good with easy access via the A1 taking the Newcastle airport Junction. The fishery is signposted at the entrance and accessed via a dirt road which is well maintained though a little dusty in dry conditions. There is a lodge with a small tackle stock and seating as well as good toilet facilities. The lodge is not staffed permanently however payment can still be made Via A honesty box situated in the annex to the this facility. There are three Lakes two are fly only and one is mixed methods. Tackle hire is available for the mixed methods lake. The lakes are set on two levels. The mixed method and fly lake being situated alongside the lodge and accessed by a short pathway to the two lakesides. The third lake is situated below the lodge and is accessed by an inclined path to its lower level. This is quite challenging to fish having natural vegetation and trees on the waterside but has good pathways round its circumference. Disabled access to all the lakes is good however the incline to the lower lake is quite steep for wheelchair use. There are good fishing platforms/stations, round all the lakes which are well maintained. The other two lakes have little natural obstructions round their banks and good natural vegetation in the margins. Weed can build up at times however is kept to a reasonable level. The fishing there is great with good quality full finned Rainbow trout and many fish into double figures. There is also a healthy stock of brown trout which are on a purely catch and release basis. This has recently been supplemented with stockings of Tiger trout which are also purely on a catch and release basis. I have fished this venue on numerous occasions my last being 31/8/18 where I personally had 18 fish to the net six being very hard fighting Tiger trout the remainder being Rainbow Trout to eight pound plus. There are a range of ticket options available to suit with both Catch and Release (£18 full day) and Keep options of up to five fish (£28) There are a number of other options based on time and number of fish being kept. Two fly maximum only allowed and no booby flies. I find the fishery clean with friendly staff and a brilliant fishing experience.
