“Taking the PIZ”

Written on: 14/12/2017 by StevenOMH (1 review written)

Recently, booked with ZIP to collect us at Bangkok, Suvarnabhumi Airport to take us to our hotel in the city. According to a local lady (providing a similar service) who tried to help us, they were in attendance for a short period before going walk about. Called hotline, but no response. Had to get a Bangkok taxi, instead.
Subsequent email exchange placed all the blame with the customer for may be pressing + on their phone rather than 00. My legal understanding of the situation is that we have a primary obligation to pay them (which we did in advance), and in return they collect us (which they didn’t - in fact, nobody was waiting for us). The hotline is mainly to deal with 3rd party interference ( frustration of the contract) which the parties have no control over; e.g. they were prevented from entering the airport by the authorities, or, perhaps, one of our cases had gone missing, which delayed us, unexpectedly. The hotline is not an excuse to opt out of the primary obligation.
Nevertheless, no gesture of goodwill forthcoming from ‘taking the PIZ’ - it’s all the customers fault, and we are keeping the money. Have since learned that many companies in Thailand allow pre-booking where you pay the driver after he has transferred you to you hotel - why, therefore, would you want to deal with people like this!?
