So Much To See And Most Of It Free!

We flew to Rome with Jet2.com on 1 October 2017 and stayed 4 nights at The One Vaticano Rooms, using rail and Metro to get there. After reading reviews, we decided against buying a Roma Pass, but we did buy basic Vatican tickets online for £20 each, which allowed us to ‘skip the line’. Plus we arrived 45 minutes earlier than the stated time on the tickets and were quickly waved through. We found that we could easily walk between most of the major sites, visiting several fountains and churches along the way, and the artwork in them was just as good as what we saw in the Vatican. We found that most of the Roman Forum was visible from the top of the nearby hill, so didn’t feel the need to pay to go inside. Plus, other major attractions: the many fountains and squares, the Spanish Steps and the Pantheon are free to visit. Prices vary in restaurants and bars, but are no more expensive than in the UK if they are not too close to the major attractions. Highlights of our visit: St. Peter’s Square at night: the Trevi Fountain, day or night; Navona Square and its three fountains; crossing the many bridges; the Vatican museum; the icecream. The downside: graffiti and cigarette ends.
