Spice Route, Windsor
Windsor Curry Club meets at a different restaurant each month, rating each experience for Flavour, Service, Atmosphere and Value for Money. We ask the restaurant to choose the menu in advance, giving them the opportunity to serve their best.
We visited the Spice Route in July 2011 and were served a predominantly vegetarian meal. The restaurant is well regarded for its choice of vegetarian food but the selection served on this occasion was limited, unimaginative and a bit bland. The service could also have been better, the waiter made no real attempt to tell us what was being served. Knowing how good this restaurant has been on previous visits we were disappointed, expected better.
Windsor Curry Club rated the modern style Spice Route “5.42” out of 10.
The total cost of the meal (Inc. Drinks & Service) was £36.00 a Head.
Worst Ever Takeaway
Hungry ? Looking forward to a nice night in with a delicious selection of indian cuisine ? if so do not order anything from the Spice route Windsor ! Hands down the worst takeaway meal i have ever had ! The meat was dry and flavourless hidden under a generic curry sauce, i only managed one mouthfull and the rest of my dinner is in the bin ! Rubbish !
Having Informed Spice Route That We Were Vegan Whe
Having informed Spice Route that we were vegan when booking and, on arrival, felt re-assured when our dietary requirements were confirmed by the waiter seeing us to our table. We ordered our meal from a dedicated vegan menu. There were lots of vegan options, and the ones we went for were delicious, and we were very pleased with our choice of restaurant. However......towards the end of the night, a waiter came over to us, expressing his sincere apologies that some of the dishes we were served were not vegan after all (as they contained butter), assuring us that we would only have to pay for our three drinks - a compromise which we accepted. The drinks were only £13, but he returned later asking for £26, apparently retracting his previous promise! What ensued was a good 30 minutes of disagreement between us and various members of staff, whilst we stuck to our principle that if you tell them you're vegan, they serve you non-vegan food, they apologise profusely then they say you don't have to pay for any of the food... then we expect not to have to pay for any of the food! Not, to end up having the same laborious argument with 3 members of staff. We ended up feeling sorry for the guy who mistook our order: his mistake was unintentional but he had the decency to admit to us what had happened. But we were really disappointed by the additional members of staff we dealt with.

The Spice Route Is A Sub Average Restaurant With V
The Spice Route is a sub average restaurant with very unhelpful staff. There are much better Indian restaurants in Windsor!!! We should have realised by the fact that we were only 1 of 3 parties eating there on a Saturday evening...doh!!
