Kryptonite U-Lock

Kryptonites are the only locks I feel safe with. Not because i think I'll get a refund if my bike gets stolen; nothing can replace my fixie. But they are actually good lock, with minimum number of bolts and pieces and what have you, which actually locks your bike, no fuss about it.

Other advantages: it's light and not too expensive. Colorful skins that add on it make it soft and cool.

I bought a Kryptolock in 1993 and have been using it since then. Recently I lost my garage key which had the only key for the lock on the same ring. I still had a slip of paper with the key details on it. I E-mailed them in the States and I received a set of two locks at no charge. After 18 years I think this is great customer service but then this is not a British company.

I have only had this Kryptonite lock for about five months and already the lock mechanism has failed. The key turns the lock but the lock won't come off. It really inconveniences you when it happens at the wrong place and time. For £50 it is fairly expensive and to fail like this is ridiculous. I found another review with the same problem so maybe it's a common fault. When it is working it's fine and secure. I would'nt risk another kryptonite ever again. There maybe people who have not had any problems but this is just my experience. By the way i don't even use my lock everyday which makes it even worse.

The Kryptonite U-Lock mount is well designed, except for one thing; I think it's incredibly stiff. I've only had it for two days but every time i try and take mine off it takes real FORCE. Hopefully it will ease up with time, and I'm going to try lubricating it with vaseline or something too.
