This Movie Has Something For Everyone
This movie has something for everyone: history, superheroes, romance, friendships, and the overwhelming message that being a good person is not something forced, not something physical. A corrupt man cannot have power without abusing it. It is a reminder of the TRUE American way: love, integrity, and kindness. Steve Rogers starts, as I like to put it, with the heart of a lion and the body of a kitten. However, even though on the outside, he is now Captain America, on the inside, he always was. The message is of being, as Dr. Erskine says, "A good man.
"great Movie! First Marvel Movie To Watch"
I really enjoyed watching this movie, I watched it about fifteen times, but every time I watched it, I enjoyed it more and more. This film is Steve Rogers' very fascinating origin story and follows him battling against Red Skull and the head of the Nazi research division HYDRA for America. I think overall it's a great family film.
Good Adaptation
This movie made me feel like a kid again. I remember all those old comics I had
Another Hollywood Yawn
I didn't see any of the hype about this film and was randomly flicking through Sky Anytime Plus when I saw it and thought "why not"
Bad choice!
It's your standard templated Hollywood action film where all the budget is spent on effects and action at the expense of any decent writing or storytelling.
The plot was laboured and torturous in parts - a real 'groan factor' and the acting was only 'satisfactory'
Action was pretty good but it didn't do enough to make this a film that anyone should bother watching
File it in the "yet another action film without a decent plot" cupboard!
All American Hero Fights Nazis - What More Could You Want
Another addition to the Marvel comic book adapations getting ready for The Avengers movie release is Captain America. A difficult one to bring to the screen as the 1940's hero Steve Rogers could come across as old and outdated.
Setting the film during the Second World War manages to remove any uncomfortable feelings about tight costume wearing super heroes. The added retro glamour of Hayley Atwell and the tongue in cheek way they treat his celebrity goes a long way to making this film feel more like Indiana Jones than Batman and Robin. It is not without it's flaws however, they've missed a trick with the weapons used by HYDRA, they kinda look like they've been made for Mars Attacks instead of taking a cue from the Fallout games, far too modern for 1940's America even considering HYDRA's research team.
The film looks great visually and has different levels of action with moments of comedy. They have really tried hard to develop the character of Captain America into someone with real depth and motivation. A great fun film more on a par with Iron Man (although Chris Evans doesn't quite have the same charisma as Downey Jr). This is a good introduction to Captain America, The First Avenger, I'll be interested to see how the team looks all together.
As with all other Marvel films make sure you stay till the end to see a trailer for The Avengers movie which worried me a small bit...just what is with the logo???
