“Good Food and Accomodation, but rushed tour”

Written on: 06/08/2013

Treasures of Europe - July 22 to 31.

Good Things - Great food, vegetarian, on all days. Good accommodation in 3 or 4 star hotels. tour guide very approachable, knowledgeable and responsible (mr khushroo). switzerland (engelberg and mt titlis) very enjoyable,so also black forest in germany - good amount of time here. good trip for over 50s/60s folks who wish everything done and do not wish to explore on their own.

Bad Things - most of the days spent on the bus in driving times. at least on 5 days, we travelled 500 kms during the day by bus - there are large distances on this trip. the sorry side effect is that there is then very little time to see the sights. we had 15 min in front of the atomium in belgium. we didnt even walk up to it. we stayed about 200 m from it. same for coloseum in rome. about an hour for the pisa tower. about half hour for most other places. by the time we reached hotel, we were usually tired and did not have the energy to go into town on our own to explore if we wished. once or twice i tried to do it. the taxi fares come to about 40-50 euros every time we wanted to leave early and see a bit more of rome, etc. we wished there were fewer places and more time in each place. also, the places need to be closer to each other so time need not be spent on the road. they could change the itenerary to include nearby and fewer places. it felt a bit like 'europe darshan by bus'.

another thing - on our bus, we couldnt use the toilet for the big job - so everyone was pre-occupied with using the toilets everytime we stopped. i dont know if this can be corrected in future trips.
