Our 5th visit to Alonia Apartments near Kolumbari in Crete. Definitely 'home from home' as far as our family are concerned...the hospitality and kindness of our host Makis are second to none. Fabulously clean swimming pool; lovely pool bar for drinkies during the day or sundowners or after dinner beverages (h9oney raki highly recommended). Barbecue night is a must on a Thursday with Greek dancing afterwards...very lively and hilarious! Makis also does how own thing and invites you to join him for seafood meals where he gets the fish direct and fresh from the fishermen at Kolumbari, cooks it all himself and appears to be only really happy when you have a huge plate of freshly cooked food in front of you.
The apartments themselves are clean and comfortable with nice views either over the sea to the front or the mountains to to the rear. They are serviced regularly (lovely 'cleaning lady' who always has a ready smile).
There are a couple of small supermarkets...and a lovely cafe...over the road as well as a butcher....we occasionally cook for ourselves when we are there and on a one ring cooker it can prove to be a challenge but so far has always worked out really well...gourmet dinner!
Excellent bus service to and from Chania, Kissimos anf Kolumbari although we tend to walk to Kolumbari being only 2km away. Buses are surprisingly regular and very inexpensive AnND airconditioned.
