“Ionian Emerald”

What a lovely hotel in a beautiful setting. The place is spotless, and as there are only around 36 apartments, all it seems with a sea view, and overlooking the lovely pool/garden area, means that there is plenty of space to relax . Ideal for a relaxing break, mainly catering for older couples it appears, although there were a few families with small children. We went for 10 days at the beginning of July so it may be different at the height of summer. Beach just at the back of the hotel has a few sunbeds, and the sea is inviting- be warned though--the sea is cold due to underground springs emerging in the bay--very refreshing though! Sami is a great relaxing resort around a 20 minute walk away. Usual bars and restaurants, but very few souvenir shops so resort seems to accommodate tourists easily alongside the local people. We have been to Greece many times, but this particular area was one of the nicest we had been to and everywhere seemed clean and tidy. Just a couple of issues- Our a/c stopped, was fixed, and then stopped again the night before we left-put it down to bad luck I guess, but the real thing that was a little annoying is the fact that the hotel pool and pool area is open to residents of the hotel adjacent, who don't have a pool. The hotel wasn't full, so there were beds and facilities available, but I would be unhappy if this made it overcrowded and noisy in the main season. Paying to stay in 5 star accommodation should not be marred by non residents coming in and laying towels on beds taking the best spots!
