Alexander Marx - Welcome To My Nightmare
I received a Cold Call asking whether I'd be interested in making 10% interest per year on investments. At the time I had just discovered my Sainsbury's Bank Account was only paying 0.35% on £20k, so I was interested. They said they'd send out a brochure and I'd get a call back.
The investment was in Carbon Credits, and, unfortunately, I hadn't been following the horror stories in the press, or would have immediately said No.
I was bombarded with phone calls (every hour during the day) to get me to invest. I agreed to make a £3k investment, to see whether 10% really could be delivered. That only increased the bombardment.
Foolishly I invested a further £8k.
When the phone calls continued I blew up (I wish I had long before that point) and told them to stop contacting me.
After two months, things started again, until my wife picked up the phone and told them to stop phoning.
A further two months brings us to the start of January 2013, and a phone call to say my investment was delivering 10% increase, but to allow it to be purchased I'd need to invest a further £12k to bring it to 'Corporate Level' - I won't be making the investment.
I have contacted Scotland Yard to see whether similar complaints have been made, and am waiting for a response to that.
In the meantime, if you receive a Cold Call from Alexander Marx, put the phone down quickly
I too was caught by their little scheme. I was dealing with the probate for my brother's estate and can only think that this was the reason I fell for their line. I was contacted by their man. I should have known then that with that east end accent he was a bit of a "wide boy". I was pressured into sending my money by a certain date or it would cause problems. I am still kicking myself because I forgot the envelope in my rush to get away for the weekend and had to phone my neighbour to ask him to post it. If I had left it I wouldn't have had this problem now. I invested £2K. I was told they didn't normally invest such a small amount but that they would pair it with someone else. Then I continued to receive phone calls which got progressively more and more pressuring. He even accused me of taking the food from his children's mouth by refusing to continue to purchase. I then received a another call from someone else. He apologised for the other guys behaviour and then proceeded to try to sell me more credits. Luckily I remained adamant that I would not be buying any more but, as you say, they continue to bombard you with phone calls. A couple of months later I received a call from Head of Dept. or similar again saying that if I purchased more then they would be better able to sell my credits. I asked why they sold me such a small amount if they could not sell them later. I got no answer. That was in August 2012. Today I have received a letter from Citadel Trustees, as trustees of the bonds, asking for money for their services. I have told them that I will not be paying. What's the point of paying to safeguard what amounts to useless paper. I did contact the Fraud division but, although they took details, they did not get back to me. Luckily, in comparison to other people, my investment was small. Others have lost their life savings.
