“Delaying deposit towards purchase of a property ”

I have been banking well with metro bank until recently when funds was transferred from abroad by my friend for a deposit for a property and funds was put in a suspense account. and I was asked to provide proof of what the funds were for which I have provided after about three days I called the branch and I was told that they have not heard from head office . Meanwhile I have 10 days to exchange contract and we are still going to and fro . Am really worked up and don't know when funds will be released to pay the deposit

Does Metro bank act immediately when funds are transferred to an account with them and they need to do their due diligence checks with regards to where funds are coming from and what it's being used for? Does this process take time or done in two to three days?
