Please read other customer reviews and Avoid please Avoid at all costs. They play games with you like adding services to your account It's all a game and they don't care. When you try and contact them they run you round in circles and if you stop paying them in hope of getting there attention they add additional charges They hold your phone number and buisness to Ransome over a porting process when you try to leave them and use every obstacle they can throw at you as to why porting can not take place. I can't believe that they are allowed to operate as a buisness. They have an outdated customer service award as part of there achievements dating back to 2019 that is still present on there company letter head. An absolute joke of a communication company that I wish I had never heard or met. Another review will be posted in due course with a mistake that they have made. Please please Avoid for your own sanity there are other communication companies to choose from.

I absolutely concur with you - they are one of the worst companies I have had the misfortune to deal with in recent years.

They seem to make it sport to see how rude and aggressive they can be and how unreasonable they can be. I am amazed they are still in business although trying to extricate yourself from their contracts is like handling a slippery eel.

Do not get involved with them as they are not interested in customer satisfaction but rinsing you for everything - any company that proudly argues "we can add any charges we like to your contract because its in our terms of business" is not the sort of company I like to do business with.

“Underhand and unprofessional ”

I concur with other reviews on here. For a business to operate this way in 2024 is disappointing and quite frankly astounding. I have an open ticket with them that is being battled by their customer services team who have told me categorically that the “dark web monitoring service” that was added to our contract is lawful because they said that they sent an email offering a free trial that would then be chargeable if we didn’t cancel - which we didn’t as we didn’t receive this “marketing email” or any subsequent email about it becoming a monthly charge. We have been told Chess can add services to our contract and change our direct debit as it’s in their terms and conditions so in effect they can add what they want and charge what they want. I have received no monthly reports to support this monitoring - until the month I found they had added it to our account and then I received the report. I have requested a refund and we are still arguing the case as we are being told they are justified in adding services to our account clearly hoping we don’t spot it - which we didn’t for several months until our renewal came through - without any mention of this additional service and missing the additional costs (which was obviously different to the amount taken on direct debit). When asking why the two differed and even the renewal didn’t mention the added service or cost) I was told they didn’t have to put this on the contract !!!

They did exactly the same to my account and i dont even buy wifi of them
They have made press before for there selling tactics .
I also have learnt that there is a very good chance that the glowing Trust pilot review company with many glowing reviews ref Chess is a company that charges the bigger companies up to £800 per month for there services.

I have finally managed to extracate our business from this company - their parting shot was to charge my last bill with a service charge for not having a direct debit set up - guess how the bill got paid ? Yes, by direct debit !

I am glad to be rid of such an aggressive insidious company that cares little for its customers and hires aggressive staff that are argumentative and seem to take pleasure in arguing with you.

As my 30 days termination period was nearly up I called to ensure that I didnt need to do anything else - I wasnt taking any chances.

The customer services advisor told me that no it was still on a rolling contract - that after I sent my termination letter they emailed me with other options and as I hadn't responded to that it meant my cancellation was not in place - I have no words !

The advisor argued "why would Chess send me an email if I hadn't wanted to keep the services open?"

They seriously tried to tell me that because they had sent our business an email in response to my termination letter that my notice of termination it wasnt binding and that I still was in contract.

As I have no control over what they send, my notice to terminate was the last correspondence and therefore they will receive no more money from me and beware any business that decides to get entangled with this hideous company.

“Unauthorised increase in direct debit”

Upgraded to fibre in February 2023 then suddenly direct debit increased by £20 a month. When complained about it I was told it was " as expected ". Finally got an offer of reimbursement but withdrawn after 6 days. Not a good company.

“Massive increase in direct debit”

“AVOID LIKE THE PLAGUE”

We were tricked into a 5 year verbal contract over the phone and after they provided terrible, SLOW broadband and non existent customer support for any problems we cancelled our direct debit after 60 months in May. But CHESS ICT wanted their pound of flesh and sent us out numerous bills for further amounts such as an extra month, admin fees, late payment fees, non direct debit fees, vat, dark web monitor fees and so on and so on......... Then they threatened us with passing our 'debt' to a debt collector even though we were told last week after we spent over an hour trying to phone them they were revising the bill, taking off all the charges. Today we were told that they had no record of that telephone conversation and that our account was closed and passed to a debt collector. The goal posts change continuously with this so called company and they cant be trusted. BE WARNED -DO NOT ENTER INTO BUSINESS WITH THEM UNLESS YOU LIKE PAYING THROUGH THE NOSE!!!

“Sent a bill for services I didn't sign up for”

This is a terrible company. I used them for website hosting but when the contract was coming to its end I cancelled the contract - it took me three phone calls and multiple emails to do this - a very difficult process but I did manage it. Suddenly, a month after cancelling, I get a bill for services I never signed up for, never wanted, and never used in the original contract. Have tried to sort it out but they are basically ignoring me Horrendous company - DO NOT USE

0 Stars If we could give this review 0 stars we would. Terrible service, regularly ignored emails, calls to our account manager regularly go to voicemail. Very little responses to our problems. Using Chess ICT has cost the business thousands of pounds, losing customers and hours of our time on emails/phone calls to try and resolve. We have several open complaints to the directors office, as yet none have been responded to in a satisfactory way. Chess ICT: Please contact us to resolve the issues with the account.

“Charlatans”

Disgraceful service, zero customer support. It would appear that Chess care only for the money. I was a customer of Chess for many, many, years, but after lack of support and indifferent care over a hardware issue, I informed Chess that I would no longer require their services, giving them their required termination time. They continued to supply unwanted and unneeded service for several months after the termination date, without informing me, until the threatening phone calls started. I repeatedly informed them that service was no longer required, but they still supplied unwanted service and they are now threatening to take me to court for unpaid invoices. How many times do you need to say "stop"?? Not to mention providing excessive and unneeded services;- effectively not fit for purpose, which I might put in a claim for. So utterly fed up with them I will be leaving negative reviews wherever I can, will be posting my views on social media, and getting the press involved. "Chess" and "Satisfied" are two words I would be surprised to find connected.

“Absolutely diabolical Company”

Dont go near this company internet and customer service is pants and they dupe you into long contracts verbally if you have a problem for them to put right. There answer to dissatified customers is taking you to court when you go to someone else because of there poor service. They have a legal team who will not hesitate to take you to court --- merchants.

I want to leave chess because I loose internet a lot and they said I have 4 years to go and have to pay over 3000 pounds. I did not choose to go to them the company I was with sold out to them.i have never heard of a phone company putting contracts that long.

So bad experience took chesstelecome , But bcz of them bad customer service they did not cancel contract and after one year from them legal depart directly send CCF and from staff they r letrally so rude . Seriously deal with legal department its harassment. Not Listen our side so never took chesstelecome

“Terrible service customer service nonexistance l”

Left with out telephone or braodband for weeks each time it broke down they just do not answer thier customer service phones apparently an ex employ says on trust pilot average wait time 90 mins to get an answer Nearly wrecked our business credit card machine needs tele phone line we could not take card payments lost customers could not update internet adverts or answer enquiries lost customers Tried to leave and go with BT Chess wanted £2600 termination fee we only had 1 basic phone line and basic broad band costing £40 per month how car termination be £2600 that over 60 months payment Chess are now threatening us with court proceedings

“Avoid at all costs.”

Worst customer service....Ever! I became a client of Chess more than 10 years ago (my previous provider was bought out by Chess PLC) & where I was initially impressed by their low (compared to BT) prices, I have had nothing but trouble, & whilst they may be one of the top 100 places to work, they have by far the worst customer service I have ever had the misfortune of encountering. Be very aware of their T's&C's as their contracts are lengthy & very difficult to get out of. It seems to me that their shareholders are their priority, not their customers.

“took advantage ”

Following a fire at my workshop I urgently needed to divert all calls to my mobile. As my line supplier I called Chess to organise. I called on the day after the fire to inform them what had happened and how I could divert my calls to a mobile phone. Initially very helpful but they signed me up to a 5 year contract over the phone and although I said i was not happy about this they did not offer any shorter terms and I feel they were taking advantage of a stressful situation As a result this is costing over £650 per year. I have requested a copy of the agreement which they have failed to delivery and have only sent an edited form of the verbal contract.

WARNING AVOID, this company is a complete joke, the service (or lack of it) is appalling, was without internet for a lot of the time I was with the company, would not release me from the contract despite this, so I then decided to pay them off just to get rid of them, then they have done nothing but harass me saying I have not paid and still owe them, spent days on the phone sorting it (or thought I had) being told how sorry they are and its there fault as billed and fined me for a new home move installation fee when I had cancelled, nearly 7 months down the line they have just threatened me with legal action due to unpaid cancellation fee, bring it on, will now be seeking compensation for their total and utter incompetence.

“Awful Company - Beware!!!!!”

I have never experienced such poor service and lack of interest from a supplier! I some how got myself tied into a 5 year contract with them and have had nothing but trouble for the first twelve months! They couldn't get our email address right even though I personally gave it to them on a number of occasions, this led to being cut off without notice for a week, all because they couldn't get the email address right. Since then we have had random admin charges, failure to take direct debit payments, failure to return calls or emails, staff telling me they couldn't get hold of me on landline or mobile yet no messages ever received! They offered a credit for the charges that shouldn't have been applied in the first place and then had the audacity to tell me that this credit was a "gesture of goodwill" funny thing was they didn't credit our account at all and months later threatened to cut us off if we didn't pay! If you are looking for a new coms company do your research and look for the other complaints and issues others have had with this company. Instead of accepting the stress they have put our business under and offering to release us from the contract the want to dig their heels in and make us stay with them. And you can forget their price match promise as well! This only works if you sign into another new 5 YEAR CONTRACT!!! My advice is to AVOID CHESS at all costs!!! Check out these reviews

I have been with chess for 16 years and have to say the last 18months has been a joke.over 6 months was overcharged,told different things even took 2 years to close an account and get my address changed!after being told one thing 3 weeks got told I owed 500 quid! even tried to charge me to put my services back on after they cocked up! if you want a poor service,no one knowing what to do and only interested in profit at any cost this is the firm for you

We were moving premise and our contract had about a year to run, we asked how much it would be to leave them as we had found a cheaper supplier for our new premise, they quotes £400, we duly gave notice under the terms of the contract and received a demand for £3000 for early termination quoting " we made a mistake with the original termination fee, however if you stay with us we will write off the £3000" I didn't take well to this blatant blackmail attempt and immediately terminated the contract, eventually it got to court and we proved that Chess had deliberately falsified the termination dates in order to increase the termination fees, HIDING BEHIND CLEVER CONTRACTS AND LAWYERS AVOID AVOID AVOID!!!.. ITS NOT ONLY ME SEARCH FOR CHESS TELECOM COMPLAINTS ON THE NET, THERE ARE HUNDREDS!
