I'm constantly in awe of how versatile coconuts are, and in the past I have written reviews on various coconut products - coconut flour, coconut water, coconut oil to name a few. They are wonderful health products, each with their own benefits, and are especially great for those that have to avoid certain foods because of allergies or dietary requirements. I thought I had tried almost all coconut based products; that is, until I came across Coconut Aminos! Coconut Aminos is made from aged coconut sap, and is used as a direct replacement for soy sauce. Although there are gluten free soy sauces available (normally called 'Tamari') if you try and avoid GM foods then soy is not an option. Coconut aminos is raw, organic, and of course non GM. Its much lower sodium than soy based products too, and is a great source of liquid amino acids, brilliant for growth and repair. On to the taste - I honestly never expected it to be so delicious! Its not as intense as tamari, which to me was brilliant, as I find tamari can sometimes overpower other flavours in my food. It added real 'unami' to my dish; and I have since experimented with it in stir frys, on salads, and even in casseroles! Its so versatile and tastes so good! The brand I purchased is Coconut Secret, and although I have nothing to compare it to (apart from tamari soy sauce) they seem to have good ethics, and all their products are certified organic. Unfortunately the only drawback of this product is the price - I paid £9.99 for a 237ml bottle. I'll have to remember to use it sparingly, which will be hard as its so tasty!
