I ordered a £140 badminton racket from Direct Sport and it arrived in an extremely damaged box; ripped, crushed, and banana-shaped. The ‘free gift’ grip was missing, and the whole thing looked like it had been through a war zone.

When I contacted Direct Sport, I was told to return the racket for an “assessment”, which was frustrating enough. I also noticed the racket sleeve was missing, and when I queried it, I was told it wasn’t part of the order. However, there was no option to add it on their website in the first place!

I made it clear I didn’t want an assessment, I wanted a refund. So, I returned the racket. Weeks went by with no communication whatsoever. I had to chase them for updates, and when the refund finally came through, it was £20 short.

They had the cheek to charge me for the “free restring” that came with the racket!

In contrast, I ordered the exact same racket from Central Sports, and the difference was night and day. Their packaging was ten times better, and the service was excellent. I’m already planning to order my second racket from them.

Lesson learned: I will never, ever buy from Direct Sport or Direct Badminton again. Poor packaging, missing items, awful communication, and a total lack of care. AVOID and go to Central Sports
