Holiday Rep's review of Laptops Direct

“Laptops Direct AVOID!!!”

Written on: 17/07/2017 by Holiday Rep (13 reviews written)

I received my 14" HP laptop and the first thing I noticed when unpacking it and starting it up for the first time, many of the icons on the Windows 10 menu were greyed out.
This of course means that you are unable to use these icons to start and service supported by Windows 10. (Some how a corruption has occurred)
I rang the company and told them of the problem and they explained to me how to factory reset the machine. (Should not a machine work out of the box if checked before dispatch)
I reset the computer and everything worked but then discovered that the battery only lasted about 6 or 7 minutes.
I had plugged a small mouse for use instead of using the finger pad, the mouse was still live even when the laptop was turned off.
Clearly the mouse was drawing its power direct from the battery, so charging it was pointless.
Even so I put the laptop on charge but found that the power was shorting to the aluminium chassis, hence you could feel a static electrical sensation through the body and the keyboard surround.
Two USB connectors were very loose and a slight movement would disconnect any peripheral being powered there.
So I got in touch paying 13 pence per minute, to report the faults to customer services, and what an uncaring lot they are.
I rand on a Friday was told that the machine if packed properly would be collected by DPD the following Monday, waited in all day and nothing happened.
Rang that day just before their closing time and told rthem that my collection had not happened, they then said "There is no record of it being collect today."
During that call I then received an RMA number, and an email of confirmation, but the next day when it should have been collected nothing happened yet again.
After calling DPD who told me "The driver has called twice today" This is an out and out lie, i was in all day and never left the house.
I again rang Laptops Direct and spoke to someone about this repeat non collection and they said there usual sorry’s (So many sorry’s) And that it will be collected Wednesday (I had told them I was not available for collection on the Tuesday) So I rang to confirm that they would indeed be collecting Wednesday and was told ("The driver called twice today but you were out") Of course I was bloody out, did I not say so to Laptops Direct.
So eventually on the afternoon of Wednesday the laptop was collected, you receive no receipt for the return and a tiny label is stuck to the returned parcel.
After waiting for the rest of the week and a good part of the next, I called the company to ask what was going to happen now, they did not think to let me know.
To cut a further long story short, it is quite a number of days now and nothing seems to be happening.
Quite a few promised and now kept phone calls later, I am still waiting to hear from the company (I use the term company very loosely here)
I after paying a small fortune I got hold of a phone number not charged at 13 pence per minute. (13 pence per minute to call 'customer services' with a laptop that is supposed to be tested but is faulty!)
So now not having a laptop I wait to see if it will ever be replaced, or indeed if anyone in the place really even cares.
I will let readers know what the outcome of this farce is in due course.
