Guest's review of DFDS Seaways, Newcastle to Amsterdam

Written on: 10/03/2013

We left on a Friday for a 'mini-cruise' to Amsterdam.

The good points: The ship is fairly nice, and our room was as described - I was actually surprised by how comfortable our bed was. The staff were generally very polite and helpful. 'Guitar George' provided wonderful entertainment in the bar.

The bad points: Food and drink is an absolute rip-off. We paid 4 euros for a pint of watered down cola! The food was too expensive on-board so we just took our own snacks - don't pay the rip-off prices. The real negative of our 'holiday' was the other passengers - it was almost like a boat full of stag and hen parties. Everyone was drunk from the minute they got on the boat till they left the next morning. I even saw someone drinking from a wine bottle whilst leaving the boat at 9.30am. The problem was that it was not contained - there were arguments, drunken conversations and full-on fights outside our cabin ALL NIGHT - from 7pm to 5am. Even though the corridor was open and they were screaming security did not turn up, so we had to listen to this on and off all night. Why would no-one stop the fights?? We couldn't complain to the staff as we didn't want to leave our cabin, walk through the arguments, to find some staff. This happened on both nights, so we came back from our holiday exhausted as well as irritated. I would not recommend this holiday - maybe it's better during the week, different clientèle, but I won't try it again.
