I have other petrol garden products ..... a lawn mower and a strimmer. Based upon my knowledge of starting and using these I invested in a Gardenline petrol hedge trimmer. I wish I hadn`t. Firstly it would not start and had to be returned to Gardenline as it was out of Aldi`s product return date. I had been away on holiday. It now started but not easily. The carburettor floods and wets the spark plug. Choke in, choke out, petrol primer pushed not pushed. It makes no difference the plug gets wet. When it does start it`s very smokey and will not idle. The throttle needs to be continually activated. After a while it cuts out altogether and will not start. I suppose there must be a temperature cut out device somewhere, because when it cools you can restart it, but again with difficulty. In use it is powerful but extremely heavy. Every so often you have to take a rest to let your arms recover from the exertion. I`m able bodied and in good health so didn`t think the weight of the trimmer would be a problem. How wrong could I be. It now has another problem. The rubber grommet in the petrol tank has corroded as has the petrol feed pipe that runs through it. Apparently this is a common problem with this product. Starting, idling, cutting out, weight ....... all go against this hedge trimmer. I`m back to using my electric corded hedge trimmer and yes I`ve accidentally cut the cord already. L-ion battery next time. The Gardenline trimmer looks absolutely pristine as it`s only 3 years old. It gets used about 3/4 times a year on a laurel hedge which is quite slow growing but tough to cut. Reluctantly I`m going to have to bite the bullet and BIN IT !!

This is a new hedge trimmer yet it annoyingly cuts out within seconds of starting. It is heavy, awkward and clunky. I would give it no stars if |I could

I am on my second garden line hedge trimmer as the first one failed to start the second unit managed to cut 2 hedges cut out then took an hour to start. It has worked once this year then failed to start I tried again after 1 week it started briefly then cut out and petrol started to leak out I drained the small amount of petrol that was left in and have since been to the local tip to get rid and to my surprise found 2 garden line hedge trimmers in the same skip. This has been a total waste of money an I shall be purchasing a Still hedge trimmer next week.

seems the one here in Australia has fuel line perishing issues, maybe the heat but its the second time fuel line has perished and this one is a replacement only 14 months old.Putting in the bin and purchasing a stihl.

Had this for a couple of years and used it about 10 times for around 20 minutes each time on quite light duty. At first it started fine and ran well. Good cutting aggression. Recently it's started to 'play up' - still fires up, but dies as soon as blades make contact with hedges. Parts like carburettor and seals/gaskets look to be unobtainable; so another £70 of chinese junk into the dumpster. We never learn that it's better to pay a bit more for quality and durability rather than a cheapo piece of junk that doesn't even last even till the gloss is off it. Looking for a second hand Stihl now.

This is the second one I've had. The first poured petrol all over me due to grommet perished. Just out of warranty. Bought new one same again at least still in warranty. Keep clear or you may go up in flames. As you will not notice petrol until you feel wet by then the exhaust may have set you on fire

Bought one last year and it ran fine but this year it gave up. Carb problem. Einhell £20+, this company

Avoid purchasing this trimmer. Ive had nothing but problems with it. Fuel line cracked after a few uses. Runs for 5 minutes then stalls and hard to restart. Most recently it developed a rattle noise at the bottom of the engine. I dismantled the bottom gear reciprocating section and found minimal grease in the housing. But not the issue. Disassembled the clutch and found it had broken into 3 peices. Cheap cast aluminum junk. Its over a year old but still covered by australian consumer warranty. So annoyed with it. It has probable run for a total of 2 hours maximum. If you still have an oprtating one grease the gearbox via the grease nipple. They assemble them virtually dry.

Just fixed one for my mates dad. It wasn't running for more than a few seconds. Fuel line was shot and crumbling with pick up hose in two parts in the tank. The local model shop sold me some aero engine hose and it now works fine. Grommet into tank is also perished, as is primer bubble. The machine doesn't look old either. Look at your fuel lines out of the carb before you heft your cutters over the side of the skip...might be just a couple of quid to fix them.

Packed up after little use. I would have thought that Aldi would sell quality machines rather than substandard ones. It has really annoyed me as Aldi always state quality and price which I will associate with food rather than mechanical devices!!!!!

Bought one, had it for a while, then used it to cut a soft hedge. After 3 cuts that lasted about an hour in total, the blades stopped engaging and the inners almost sounded as if they were going to explode. Got on to Einhell Customer Service and certainly HELL is an appropriate name for the firm. Girl kept insisting there was a label on the engine casing, which there was not-ever! Told me to ring back when I found it and the receipt. No hope of either. Cut your losses and avoid Aldi until they give the provider, Hell to pay !! Another lost Aldi customer

Very difficult to start then running time 3-5 minutes then clouds of smoke very hot then not able to start again. Disappointed!!

Bought in 2011 and used rarely. Seemed to work well except I had to adjust the throttle setting to keep it running on tick over. Very smoky right from the start and today, despite using the 40:1 petrol/oil mixture & checking the air filter beforehand, the machine has seized up solid. Would not recommend it.

bought to replace ancient but good electric trimmer.garden has matured beyond old trimmer but after using new petrol tool i regret not getting it sooner.starts well-cuts well and runs well. too many people just read the first couple of pages and wonder why things go wrong.one tip-buy good greese gun.extra couple of inches makes all the difference with hawthorn and pyracantha.

Had this hedgecutter for a while now, very hard to start and when started does not carry for more than 2 mins, tried adjusting the mix and everything else, looks like it is destined for the local dump.

I have never owned a 2stroke powered tool that is as terrible as this one. The problem is simply starting the thing, managed to get it going a few times after about an hour or two, but is simply hopeless. The fuel needs to be super fresh, cleaned plug and air filter and even then a very small chance it'll start. I'm a mechanic so familiar with starting a motor! No other motor is this terrible and even taking it for a professional opinion, I was just laughed at. They wouldn't even look at it at first but for laughs we had a try, and now it's binned. Buy something else!!!! Even other cheap ones are better than this. Shame because when going it works pretty well, but after two hours trying to start, cleaning plugs, etc, just not worth it

You should have taken it back as they're usually on a three year warranty. My mate is a gardener and he has had his for eighteen months and uses it often as you would expect. It's never let him down even after the winter break. I bought one for a tenner off face book buy and sell not knowing it was from aldi and it turned out to be the same as my mates. I started it and told him it was a bit ropey so he looked at my fuel and said there was too much oil in it so I stuck more petrol in and gave it a good shake and let rip again. Started well so he revved it until the smokeyness stopped then turned a little screw thats attatched to the throttle cable housing a bit this way and that and it settled down nicely. Not missed a beat since. I think with them being cheap chinese sh1te they dont assemble them with great care so possibly need a tweak to get them right.

Adjusted pull start for better pulling position. Unbolt pull start and position to suit your preference, made bracket to lift petrol tank to level position. TIP: Keep air filter clean or the thing won't go.

Previously owned an electrical Ryobi trimmer which struggles against thick hedge branches. Purchased my new petrol trimmer from Aldi today and performs much better than Ryobi. It slices through my hedge effortlessly and smoothly compared to the Ryobi. Even the price was almost half that of the Ryobi from Bunnings. I had no problems starting it for the first time. Just follow the instructions in the manual and adjust the choke accordingly. Great trimmer and it's value for money at $70.

Absolute pig to start and when it finally does it runs for 5 to 10 minutes before conking out. Cannot be restarted again until it cools down. Complete waste of money and after sales service and advice has been non existent from the designated customer service team. Great shame because when working it handles and cuts well . Will be returning this hedge cutter to Aldi for a refund as it is clearly not fit for purpose.
written by AngeloLopez on 04/10/2014
Very rarely starts and if i am lucky it may run for about ten minutes before conking out. Again have the same problem starting the engine whilst warm
Written on: 24/10/2014
I agree - have exactly the same problem . Absolute pig to start and then runs for 5 to 10 mins before stopping. Then impossible to restart until cooled down usually an hour or so later. Contacted gardenline customer service - absolutely useless didn't return call- basically didn't want to know. This hedge cutter is unfit for purpose - do not buy.

it has now died. tried a new ignition module and replaced rubber grommet (mine leaked too), ran after an effort for a few minutes and then stopped forever.
