I visited Café Nero, Cranbourn St, WC2, London, with my girlfriend. First I ordered what I wanted. Then I realised that the guy behind the counter hadn’t understood a word. None of it at all. Then he tried to explain what I had said to the girl with him. She was doing nothing and could have taken the order anyway. Eventually she came to take the order. While she took the order she did not look at me: She was having a conversation with another guy who was on the phone. I do not know if he was an employee or not. He seemed to go in and out of the office so I guess he worked there. After each item she started to total up on the till. I had to wait until I could attract her attention to tell her that I had not yet finished. This happened several times. Finally I asked for a glass for each of my mineral water and coke. She said she had only one. She had run out. I asked how it was possible to run out when there were only three customers and only one glass appeared to be in use at all. She snorted with some derision and turned away.

So there were 3 customers! A group of people came in and talked very loudly to the staff close to us for 10 minutes. Friends, I guess. They left without purchasing anything. They clearly irritated the three of us that were spending. The other customer left.

Finally, before leaving I asked where the toilets were. There were none. No bloody bog! In the middle of London! I am surprised that they are allowed to run a place like this, serving food which is consumed on the premises without a public toilet. It beggars belief. I am going to check with the local authority to see if this really is possible. It certainly should not be. But what kind of people would even contemplate it anyway?

We will not go there again. They really don’t deserve much success.
