£25 charge for doing nothing

I took out insurance with them, but when I went to cancel my existing policy with another insurer, my current insurer offered me a significantly cheaper price to stay. I went to cancel with budget insurance. It was less than 12 hrs and that was over night. The policy is not due to start for another 26 days and they charged £25. They’ve done nothing and charged £25. The docs they sent me are computer generated. No one had lifted a finger apart from a machine and the policy is not close to even being live. This makes no sense. Really poor service. This is a stupid stance and will cost the business, as I’ll ensure I don’t consider them in future and ensure others are aware. When they could have turned me into an advocate for them. I feel this is very short sighted and they’ve not focused on a longer business strategy, just quick wins for their bottom line.

Very reasonably priced

The car insurance was very easy to set up and reasonable. Every step was explained fully and easy to follow. I have yet to contact them with a problem so can't comment on how they would deal with it.

Have yet to claim but been with Budget for 2 years and price is always competitive

I haven't yet had to claim (*touch wood*!) but the initial insurance process was easy and I have since renewed with Budget twice as their price is always competitive (and I use comparison sites every year!).

At least Dick Turpin wore a mask

had issue with wrong address being pulled through from price comparison site when purchasing new policy in advance of start date. Phoned Budget immediately to resolve. Told there was £25 admin fee plus £45 increase in premium which then didn’t make them the most competitive. I asked to cancel policy instead and was charged £30 to cancel a policy which hadn’t yet begun and had only been purchased 20mins previously (took 20 mins on hold to speak with customer service advisor). I now have to wait for full annual premium to be deducted before they partially refund me, whilst having to also payout for my actual new policy. DISGUSTING that there is a charge during cooling off period!

Rubbish

They charged be £35 to change my address, and then put my premium up for moving 1 street away, claiming the crime rate was higher. Just a rip off company adding extortionate fees for the sake of it.

Never again.....real rip-off charges!

Only renewed my the insurance for one of my two cars for £159 just a month ago. Unexpectedly decided to replace that car and asked Budget to quote for the new vehicle. I was immediately told that I would incur a penalty fee for making this substitution and then the overall quotation they gave me, considering the £159 that I'd only recently paid, really surprised me! They quoted an additional £589 + £25 amendment fee and the excess on this new car had more than doubled! When I then asked how much I would be refunded if I just decided to cancel my existing policy, I was quite amazed to be told that all I would receive back from that £159 paid last month WAS JUST 45 ! I'm still shaking my head in disbelief that they can rip customers off like this. Anyway, there's nothing that I can do now except warn others to avoid insuring with Budget if there is any likelihood of them needing to make changes to or cancel their policy. If you do, you'll either be penalised or stand little chance of getting much of your premium back if you cancel. This is the first and hopefully the last time I've ever given a poor review of an Insurance company. I'm 76 and have had both car and home insurance with at least a dozen insurers over the past 50+ years.

£30 to cancel immediately and long before policy starts date

I can see other people have had similar experiences, I clicked through from a comparison site and paid and then followed all the instructions immediately, is, open a customer account and check all the details and inform straight away of anything that needs amending, realised my named drivers details hadn't all come through properly, ended up on the chat bot and after a long wait on to an agent, site kept crashing and kept trying to log me out etc etc the whole process took hours and at times I felt the tone of the agent I had was rude. This fee felt like I'd been robbed as I researched that most companies allow you to cancel for free before the policy starts....poor way to treat people, if I'd have been able to cancel free if charge, I'd have likely redone my quote and stayed with my choice, but I felt scorned by the whole experience.

So far so good

Did my 26 day pre renewal check as per MSE and Budget were cheapest to include actually more than I currently had with AVIVA . The only bugbear is the excess BUT even increasing the excess with my current insurer didn't reduce the premium, so that was that! The site seems clear to use, I would however like a proper app, but its easy to put the link on my phone, perhaps an app is on its way. Anyway the proof of all insurance is its claims handling, which I hope never to use!
