Guest's review of Megabus www.megabus.com

“Left us stranded in wrong town on our wedding anniversary”

Written on: 01/10/2013

We experienced what can only be described as extraordinary levels of incompetance and rudeness from this company. We boarded the megabus service in Dundee, asked for Gleneagles, and then bought our tickets from the driver for Gleneagles.
We suddenly realized an hour later that we had not stopped in Gleneagles (the journey takes about an hour according to the timetable). My husband went up to the driver and asked him where the stop was for Gleneagles, and the guy told us that it was our fault we had not told him where to stop. He was extremely rude, and did not accept that ONE OF THE FUNDAMENTAL JOBS OF THE BUS DRIVER IS TO STOP AT SCHEDULED BUS STOPS. He blamed us for not knowing where the Gleneagles bus stop is on the A9, even though we have NEVER BEEN THERE. He denied knowing that we needed to stop in Gleneagles, despite it being a stop on that route, us having asked him about it an hour before hand, and having bought the frickin ticket off him.

He grudgingly agreed to let us off in Dunblane, about 15 minutes on, no apology. He offered no advice or information on how to get to Gleneagles, and was rude when we asked him where the stop was for the return megabus in the other direction. He also did not open the luggage compartment for us, and we had to bang on the door to stop him driving off with our luggage.

The megabus in the opposite direction did not arrive even 20 minutes after the scheduled time, and it was only because we jumped on a local bus with a very kind driver, who actually went out of his way to drop us at the hotel, did we arrive at our own wedding anniversary celebrations.
Not only that, but the tickets for the bus were MORE expensive than the train. We used the service because it would have given us about half an hour extra (due to bus replacements that weekend on the rail line) at the celebrations if it had actually stopped at the place we had paid for.

I hope you'll think twice about using megabus, seeing as they employ such awful, rude, incompetant drivers. Use the train.

PS The one star is only because I can't rate negative stars.
