“Dreamsaver - refused to accept claim”

★☆☆☆☆

written by s7paul on 01/02/2013

My daughter and her fiancé took out Dreamsaver Gold insurance for their wedding. They had arranged for the reception to held at a country pub. The menu offered was ideal, and they paid a £500 deposit.

When they returned several months later to pay the balance, they were greeted by new tenants. The previous landlord had committed suicide (on the premises) due to financial problems, and his partner had moved out without leaving a forwarding address.

The new tenants knew nothing about the booking and had not had the deposit passed on to them. They had also changed the menu, and it was no longer suitable.

My daughter and her fiancé then had to start from scratch again and find an alternative venue, which they have.

They were unable to claim the original £500 from the landlords partner (because they can't find her), and the company that owns the pub denied any liability, at it is the landlords responsibility.

So, they had little choice but to claim on their insurance to recover the £500. Unfortunately Dreamsaver refused to pay out because the (hopefully) unusual circumstances relating to this case were not specifically covered in their small print.
