“Don't buy here!”

★★☆☆☆

written by kcrumble on 21/04/2013

I didn't have time to run all over town looking for a Mother-of-the-Bride dress to wear to my daughter's wedding, so I took a leap-of-faith and ordered one online from JJ's House. Ordering was easy and it arrived over a week before the deadline date I requested. Problem is, the dress falls off my shoulders because it doesn't fit--I ordered a stock size in order to avoid custom fit charges AND because I felt it would be easier to return if there was a problem, the color is hideous, it's too long, and the way it hangs makes me look like I'm eight months pregnant!

I contacted JJ's House within two days of receiving the dress, told them the problems, and asked them what I needed to do to return it for a refund. They are insisting I have to live with it--get it altered, have it dyed, etc. This is BS!!! I should not have to spend additional money to make this dress suitable. If I had tried it on in a store I would have returned it immediately to the rack, not bought it... how can online companies get away with this?

Now that the wedding is over and my house guests have all gone home I have time to deal with this unpleasant issue...

My order number was 1927249399.

I repeat, I did NOT order a custom size, I merely asked for a stock size for which JJsHouse provided the measurements. I actually believed the dress might be too small around my rib cage because of this note on the Size Chart:

Note: Please note that special occasion dresses are sized differently than ready-to-wear clothes. You might find yourself ordering the special occasion dress in a larger size than the size you usually wear.

However, the dress I received was huge all over! If I had taken it in for alterations they would have had to remake the entire thing.

And, I was mislead by Return Policy on the JJsHouse.com site into believing returns were possible. Remember, I have NEVER ordered a dress online before (and will never do it again!!!). This is the statement that encouraged me to take a chance:

1. Contact JJsHouse.com Customer Service to initiate the return process within 7 days upon receiving your item(s).

Please note that we only accept products in their original condition, and we cannot process any products that are returned without our prior knowledge. If you wish to return any or all parts of your order, you will need to contact customer service at Contact Us and obtain a "Product Return" form that must be included with your package.

Problem was, when I first tried to get a Product Return form the day after I received and tried on the dress, I was stymied by the request for pictures of me in the dress. I simply was not going to have an ugly picture of myself floating about on the Internet--who would? So I spent another day online figuring out how to put in a request for a Product Return form without sending a picture. This was time I didn't have that was wasted, but still well within the seven day time limit the company asked for. And yet, JJsHouse outright refused to take back the dress and give me a refund.

I have now had the opportunity to talk with women I know buy clothes online, and ALL of them have warned me against buying anything from China. Now I understand why the JJsHouse.com website is very careful not to reveal they are located in China. It also explains why most of the positive reviews I have seen for their products appear to have been written by Asians--they probably work for the company!
