It's A Big Toolbox, Like Sap. Everything Is A "feature"

We had the luxury of 10 years of ecommerce storefront and inventory management on a proprietary, non-extensible system that was developed by a very forward thinking team in the early 2000s. It lacked some wiz-bang features, but offered order mgmt, inventory management, image management, promotions, etc.

The back-end interfaces, while needing a couple of features, did everything we needed to run a 100K / mo autoparts biz with over 15,000 SKUs, and had excellent, intuitive interfaces out of the box.

Sadly that system was end-of-lifed in 2015, and we looked at a development outfit ASPDNFSF as a replacement.

In a word, the system is simply a box full of tools that you use to build >everything< in your customer facing and back-end user experience. The default layouts for inventory management, order management are horrible from a usability perspective. It will function, but is klunky and kludgy.

The good news is that because it's a relatively open architecture, you can build whatever you want.

The bad news is that every single usability improvement is a "feature".

We compared the major features of our old system to what ASPDNF could provide, and it looked like just what we wanted. Little did we know all of the little "built-ins" that we assumed any competent system would have put into place for navigating / moving around in order mgmt, inventory mgmt, just were not there.

The customer facing check-out pages are klunky and awkward out of the box, so plan on customizing those too.

We will nearly double our initial development cost estimates by the time we are done on custom development on basic usability mods.

In the end our old system cost about $1000/month, charges based on revenue.

We have at least 6 months and $35K into this creation of a comparable ASPDNFSF implementation, having the luxury of our old system as a model, and are still lacking back-end functionality we enjoyed in the old system.

Biggest technical issues baked into the system?

Apple / MacOS browser shopping cart compatibility problems

and real time shipping rate calculator that will not return

dimensional rates! (custom fixes required for both of those).

Be careful, and look at key usability on the back-end before committing.

Want To Be A Fan, But They Make It Hard

We've been on the platform since 2006, and stuck with the product as it was purchased by Vortx, previously a dev partner.

It has some potential, and we're a technical outfit that enjoys getting the most out of our site. Extensibility has not been a problem with ASPDNSF.

However, we simply have learned the CANNOT rely on the storefront. It's riddled with bugs, some of which will directly affect your customers ability to complete a sale.

It's true that they charge for all kinds of support, but let's face it, the cart is inexpensive for what it is, and they have staff to pay. That's my beef; we're happy to give Vortx more money for support, but have been burned by their inability to deliver a reliable, responsive, and stable solution.

Ultimately, I would recommend going elsewhere.

Agreed. My issue is paying for upgrade/support packages and never getting any upgrades or patches as promised. They don't send emails to alert the subscribers that any are available. You have to continue to go to their website and check. Not good practice if someone is paying you money, they should have the decency to at least send out emails.

Even with the support package, I have had do pay additional money for anything I had them to do. Always get the story, Oh, that isn't included in the support package. Never have received any literature explaining to me exactly what was included with the support packages. Just phone calls telling me how important it is to purchase them.

Another issue I have is losing all of the expensive add-ons that I purchased. I have lost thousands of dollars. Now they tell me I have to get a MasterCard patch for the new card numbers. They want me to upgrade the store to get it...If I upgrade the store I lose my add-ons yet again.

This software is a money hog and I am tired of pumping money into it. Getting harder and harder now to get answers even for the simplest of questions.

I have been using the storefront for many years. Wishing I had never gotten into it. Like you, I am trying to be a fan but I am tired of putting money into it and getting no returns.

Site Full Of Problems And No Help

Boy! What a true waste of money this has been. Do not waste your money with these guys. I had problems from the start( 5 weeks ago) and quickly asked for help. I am still waiting for a response. I have sent 5-6 messages on the forum. Sent 3 emails, contacted them via Facebook and twitter. In the end I have given up. £47.00 wasted I have had to buy another theme from a different company. I have asked for a refund from storefrontthemes but I obviously have had no answer.

Customer Service Kills This Products Potential

We've used aspdotnetstorefront since its beginning, back when they were a start-up. It has always been buggy and not as "simple" to use as they claim. If and when you get it up and running its mostly fine. Though it has it's share of bugs that the dev team has never quite been able squash from its first versions. The real proble is support. They do not support their product. A previous reviewer mentioned you can't breathe their name without cash in hand, and thats 100% true. Even if you do run it "out of the box". We were even told that since we've upgraded it's not out of the box anymore and therefore not supported and again, bust out the cash for some time with a dev. We have gotten comfortable and reluctant to start over with another cart, but we finally decided it had to be done. This company doesn't get better with time, it gets worse, and much more expensive. The longer we wait to move on, the more painful it will be. Oh and whatever you do, do NOT let them host your store. You need to be able to get support from hosting. When their server crashes, don't think it's coming back online soon. They run their hosting like its a garage based data center. Avoid avoid avoid this company

Stay Away

When I purchased the cart (ASPDNSF) I did so because of the features and begrudgingly learned ASP. What a huge waste of time. The software itself is buggy, and if you need help with their buggy cart ... you are on your own, but it still has a lot of features.

My real issue is with the company that runs it. You pay for everything, if you breathe their name they will charge you for it, if you want a mobile site, it's a charge, want responsive customer service, there's a charge for that. There is nothing you can do with this cart that will not require an additional charge.

But if you do use their free customer service, it will take 3 days to get a response and it's only a copy and pasted response that does NOTHING to solve the problem. This is a near quote, "I've never seen that error so you must have done something which means it is outside of our help." With a good luck and F you.

Seasoned Developers Confident In Aspdotstorefront

Our development company has been using ASPDOTNESTOREFRONT for nearly four years and have been satisfied with the core technology and customer service.

We use ML8 as the underlying platform for our e-commerce clients. Out of the box, the platform offers many services and features that are key to running a successful online company. From integration with third party services, to changing content on the fly, to simply applying coupons on orders the system comes with a lot of functionality.

The CMS system that powers the ongoing management of the site is more than satisfactory as well. Even non-technical administrators can make changes to the site without the help of developers.

Overall it is a company and platform that is growing and making improvements. I am excited to work with them further.

I Trusted My Developer... And Boy Am I Glad I Did!

I was told about ASPDotNetStoreFront by my developer who had looked into the best options for building my new ecommerce website.

After hearing about all the great features that are standard out of the box i was sold (ASPDotNetStoreFront really does have bags of features which the other shopping carts just don't have).

We bought the software about 12 months ago, and we really haven't looked back since. I found it easy to add products, add content - all the stuff that anyone who is running an ecommerce site needs to consider, and then I have also found I have grown into using some of the more advanced features such as kit products etc. The great thing about ASPDotNetStoreFront is that it is perfect for a novice ecommerce shop owner all the way through to the seasoned professional ecommerce shop owner.

The site has done well in the SERPS. We have found that we are ranking really well for some very competitive terms and also we are ranking well for long tail keywords too.

I think having lived with the software for 12 months now, I think the main thing that has impressed me the most is that we haven't even scratched the surface of this software. I feel that if you are looking for a software, that is not only going to be perfect when you launch your new online business, but a software that you can grow into, then ASPDotNetStoreFront is the perfect choice.

The customer service is fantastic, and if you have any questions, the team are always more than happy to help out. It has been brilliant that this is a software that is constantly being invested into. This software isn't standing still, they are trying to innovate and move with you to provide the optimum for your business.

I really am thrilled we chose ASPDotNetStoreFront, it's been a fantastic investment for our business.

Aspdotnetstorefront Better Than Before! From Worst To First!

I am a devoted ASPDNSF fan. I have worked with them for several years now and couldn’t be happier with the progress that has been made since Vortx took over last year. I came aboard when 9 was initially released and I wasn’t all that impressed, but I stuck it out. Since the company has been under new ownership, there’s been nothing but positive and beneficial changes made. I’m not just talking about the software either, but support and customer service, too. When was the last time that you spoke to a company’s Chief Operating Officer by phone? At 11pm? On a Saturday night? That is somebody that I want to work with because THAT is dedication! That dedication is reflected throughout their products, services and employees.

I’m not typically a review writer, but I came across this site and couldn’t believe my eyes. It is a shame that AspDotNetStorefront is still dealing with the wreckage left behind by its previous owner. I strongly feel that they now have products and services for which they can be proud of. They deserve another look!

Aspdotnetstorefront Has Gone From Bad To Worse.

This software, initially introduced about 10 years ago is very time consuming and full of technical issues. There is significant problems with this software package, so much that I will say PURCHASE FROM A MORE LEADING COMPANY, this company is now owned by a new owner and to receive any support of upgrades you will have to purchase a plan. This software has a monthly recurring fee for the mobile platform and their licensing module is problematic so much that you will be frustrated with the constant crashing and call back issues related to Google feeds, Mobile browsers and dead page views all due to this company having licensing built into the site for which when a customer views your site and the module cannot verify your software install with the company license servers, your customer will receive a dead page because the license appears invalid. Now this has nothing to do with the functionality and that is true, but you will never know how much business you loose with AspDotNetStorefront until you troubleshoot the above issues. When we do discuss functionality, this needs to be reviewed by a seasoned developer simply because this is a complicated software solution and not developed for the average business professional. Do not purchase this product unless you have an inhouse developer, you will regret your purchase and you will not receive any support for the product once payed and installed. Very bad product! There are many good companies out there and many options available.

Please Do Yourself A Favor And Avoid This Product

Please do yourself a favor and avoid this product at all costs! This storefront is extremely complex to install and use, the documentation is terrible, there are hidden upgrade costs and technical requirements which are conveniently not mentioned by anyone before you are stuck with the purchase, the admin component is cryptic to use. Purchasing this product was a terrible mistake that we now wish we could undo. Unfortunately, we now have so much time, energy and money invested into trying to get this package to work, we feel stuck (and we stil havent gotten it up and running).

I hate it when i discover that sometimes our cart is bought in the mistaken belief that it is less sophisticated than it actually is. If you know the difference between MS Paint, and Adobe Illustrator, then you will know that both of them will draw a picture, but that they are worlds apart in terms of their full potential. Along with potential comes some element of cost, and some investment in learning and getting help. I defend our cart as a very serious business tool for very serious businesses. And still, i feel terribly sorry when people get tripped up by the fullness and complexity.
