the rims and tyres that come stock on the VW Golf Wolfsberg are beautiful, the acceleration expecially on the 2001 1.8t is nowhere else to be found. I could keep on going and going but I know you get the pont.

Totally have to agree with you. A 2.0 engine offers the same performance (FSI or regular 2.0 without injection, both offering very good responses and top speeds). The rims that come on the car are generally very good, but modification to wider, taller rims turns this vehicle into somewhat of a rocket. I fortunately never had to push it and, even though once it was severely damaged, I could drive it all the way to the VW service station who repaired the damage for around 200CA$, and the car was good as new (I had driven the car for around 120km with a terrible rattling noise, something has broken up in the engine compartment but stopping in a snow storm in the middle of nowhere is not an option: apparently snow had penetrated some mechanic parts and broken something... but the car kept going nevertheless... ).

The car is a joy to drive. I have a heavy foot so my mileage figures would be less than usefull.
The rear cargo compartment is huge. Plus it is a sports car in disguise.
The airconditioning works very well to quickly cool the interior and the heat is just as efficient. The A/C does draw on the engine a bit, but you can compensate with the 5 speed. I would imagine that the automatic version is slightly gutless with the a/c engaged, although I have driven this car with an auto-transmission without the air on, and it was anything but gutless.
This is a fairly light car that handles like a baby porsche.It will hold a turn so tight,you will swear that you feal the outside rear wheel lift off the ground.Braking is very good, but my example is not ABS equipped, I would assume such vehicles that are are even better. The 2.0L engine puts out 115 HP that can give you a kick in the pants if you drive it right. At 140km/h is incredibly stable, and the car still has ample headroom for accelleration and passing. Must be its Autobahn roots.
Aside from a few minor interior finish problems, the car is a gas. It has a solid feel that is hard to express. From the feel of the door closing, to its ability to suck up lifes little mistakes( hit a curb going far to fast), the car just feels like it will last a long time to come!
The Canadian model is known for plastic defects: my glove box door has broken twice and plenty of other small pieces do tend to 'disappear'. However, the dashboard is still solid. My A/C never worked because some plastic piece (hmm) had broken inside the ventilation shaft blocking the fans and thus the car would only spit out hot air when cruising, or nothing at all when immobile. The handling is superb and ABS does add to the joy of driving the Golf. I find the fifth gear a little bit sluggish above 4000 rpm. You have to be careful with the ABS on snow and very frequently remind yourself not to push the gas pedal too hard. Again, the cornering is magnificent, and even on extremely sharp turns at 120 I never so much as felt the car budge ( the car always gives you the feeling of safety and you feel the base of the car stuck to the road... ).
Having driven a number of American produced cars when living in Canada, I can tell you a Golf does feel like a sports car.....in Europe.....Nah!
This review was complete tosh. Whoever wrote it hasn't got a clue. The Golf in question is not particularly quick and it certainly doesn't handle like either a go-cart or a Porsche.
It is however a well made comfortable little car, although they do tend to suffer from rattles behind the dash-board. The handling is safe and sure, but certainly not sporting.
