Expensive As Its A Sony ! - But Fantastic Look And
Expensive as its a Sony ! - but Fantastic look and high gloss black with Chrome finishing - I would recommend this unit if you can get hold of it still.
Sony brought out two models CMT-C7NT and the CMT-C5 - one was silver (green lighting) and the other black (blue lighting)
Unit itself has S-Video connection with additional straight line out and in.
The speakers are the real eye catching element with lights out - glowin blue circle matching the glowing blue highlights of the stereo - fantastic unit to plug up to any laptop in ones room or just to have as a stand alone unit in a small apartment or flat. Surprisingly however even with large open space rooms it is more than adequate to have clear sound and clarity elevating from.
Boosted sound comes from the accoustic speakers and have tweeters in them to complement. Keeping the covers on does not affect the glowing affect of them at night - real plus point as expensive unit = more crying if anything happens to it.

I Was Looking For A Very Small Hifi With No Tape D
I was looking for a very small hifi with no tape deck and decent sound quality and sony's CMT C5 fitted the bill. It seemed to stand out from most other micro systems as being a little bit different, probably due to the 'egg' style speakers with blue backlighting. The system could do with being a little more powerful but it serves my purposes and I'm very impressed with the bass response considering the size of the speakers.
Use the optical in function with a dvd player or ps2 the speakers come alive and sound a lot better! adds that extra touch to a great picture.

The Sony Cmt-c5(b) Is A Very Good Micro System In
The Sony CMT-C5(B) is a very good micro system in general. Good sound quality, smart and neat. Shame the speaker wires are finished with sealed plug-ins so can't add on my additional 'heftier' speakers. Suit apartment rather than boom-room therefore.
I`ve managed to get the circuit diagram for this system and discover that the speakers are 'active' although Sony advertise them as passive ! ie.the amps are in the speakers.
The only way to use other speakers is to use a separate amp fed from a signal from the tape outlet. A black mark for Sony who had assured me that I could use other speakers connected to the din socket. Still a great system though.
I've just got this system as well and can't get new speakers for it - does anybody know if there is any way to make up your own din sockets to use with normal speaker wire - any advice would be much appreciated. Thanks
Yes I agree, a great little system but the speakers could be the weak spot.
I`d like to try other speakers, you can get 8 pin din plugs from Maplin but will Sony tell me the plug wiring configuration, will they hell. A couple of the wires supply current for the blue speaker lights, and as they are passive speakers a couple more should give audio feed ! Any ideas ?
