I was at an auction and saw a vehicle that I really liked but I didn't know anything about it and no one was sharing very much information so I checked the car fax right on the spot. And I am glad I did because the car had extensive damages that wasn't visible. Thanks Car Fax

I was purchasing a 2008 Yamaha R6 from Craigslist and was worried about the purchase because it was in a different state and I was not at the location when it was finalized. I purchased a carfax report and with the in-depth review of the bike's history and even a guarantee, I felt so much more comfortable about buying the bike. The carfax was easy to understand and gave great information that I needed! When I got the bike I was happy with the purchase and with the carfax report and help from some of the customer service representatives that I talked with. It was my first motorcycle purchase and with Carfax, I definitely felt like my first purchase was a great one! The main features I enjoyed were the last maintenance reports, wreck history and definitely that buyback guarantee!

I had been shopping for a used car for several weeks and routinely read the Carfax reports when they were available. One vehicle caught my attention--all I knew was the price, the year and model. No photo, no other description. BUT . . . there was a Carfax report, which was not only clean but showed three years of all oil changes and maintenance. That Carfax report intrigued me enough to go look at the vehicle, and it turned out to be the one for me! Thanks Carfax for giving me confidence to look at a vehicle based only on it's "outstanding" history!

After having sold my pick up truck (I wanted something with 4 wheel drive), I looked online for vehicles in my price range where I wouldn't have a lien, and while some online dealers offered free CARFAX reports, others wanted you to pay for the report. So signing up for the Unlimited Reports package for 1 month, I then looked into the known history of a car I was looking at (2001 Subaru Forester) which was listed at $5000. The CARFAX report I purchased, which was also stuck to the window of the car when I went to look at it, mentioned that it had been in a previous accident, but that the accident was valued by the state where it happened (PA) at less than $1000 with no frame damage. It also mentioned that the vehicle had recently (Dec. 2013) had a large amount of mechanical work done to it, including head gasket and wiper motor replacements. I took the vehicle to be inspected by a mechanic of my choice, who said that a lot of the service work listed by the wholesale seller through CARFAX as having been done, had actually not been done (such as wiper motor replacement and head gasket repairs) as evidenced by visual age of leaks and such; and that if I bought the vehicle, it would be more than $5000 in repair work just to get it street legal in Virginia. He said that whilst the dealership was marketing heavily on the CARFAX report (A trend used heavily by wholesale dealers on as-is cars which no reputable dealer would want on their lot due to the extreme repair costs) and their guarantee regarding Lemons and such, the issue is that CARFAX has to rely on individual garages providing honest details to them based off the VIN, of any work done. Sadly, the mechanic can say work was done, which never actually was. Indeed, my previous vehicle (2004 Ford Ranger) shows the vehicle was serviced by mechanics in Florida on two different dates (Aug 2006 and Feb 2007), to which I wasn't even in Florida at the time of the second service which they had said was done; and the report never mentioned the front end accident my truck had been involved with back in August of 2006 which had been written up in a police report with driver air bag deployed. Another vehicle which I had looked at (2001 Nissan Pathfinder), had a red flag when I noticed that CARFAX was saying that it was worth less than other Pathfinders of the same age and mileage. When I looked at the vehicle's history report, I could see why. Every two years when it was taken in for a biannual emissions check, it would fail the inspection the first time, and then pass on the second inspection a few days later (this had been every two years starting in 2003). It may be in my budget range, but I don't want to run the risk of it failing emissions on me every two years. The CARFAX guarantee understandably doesn't guarantee mechanical work which had been entered by a shop as having been done, even if it really had not been carried out. The vehicle I eventually ended up with (2001 Subaru Legacy Outback), was listed by a standard Subaru dealership (not a wholesale dealership) who had listed all the work that they had done, and they were more than willing to have the vehicle inspected by an outside mechanic, whilst informing me of what work they still needed to do with the car on the "What We Owe" form. They said they needed to replace a transmission mount and 2 rear differential bushings, which were on order from Subaru and expected in sometime in the next 2 days. I took it to my mechanic that evening who looked it over, but I didn't tell him what they had said they still owed. After he came back and said that it was good to go outside of needing the very things which they had said they owed me, I went ahead and bought the car, being provided with a free loaner until the parts were received and installed a couple of days later. All in all, it's a great service provided that everything known about the vehicle's history is included, and if mechanics are held accountable to be honest with CARFAX about what work they have actually done. Otherwise, it's a gamble that you could read the CARFAX report and not know truthfully important details about the vehicle through the report. I was honest and upfront with the buyer of my truck when I noticed the accident hadn't shown up in the CARFAX report, and showed him the paperwork from both the body repair shop and the police report; as well as receipts for all the self applied oil changes which the truck had had done by me (why pay $30+ for someone else to do it?). But that doesn't mean just anyone is going to keep all that paperwork and be honest and upfront about things which CARFAX may or may not have on file. So best to do your homework, and use the CARFAX report as a starting point.

Found a 2004 Corolla with only 46,000 miles on it. I've heard a lot about cars that were in floods were being sold without disclosing the information. After running a car fax I found the car had only 2 owners that had taken very good care of it and also found there were 3 factory recalls for small repairs. The price felt a little high but in the long run it was worth every penny. Without Car Fax I could have missed out on a really good car. I bought the car and I got a great deal!!! Thanks Car Fax!!!

I recently purchased a car from a dealer he showed a Carfax as all clean. Bought the car spent 2930.00 in five weeks still had problems. Got title from bank title had a cumulative damage listed on title.traded car lost 3000.too on trade because of damage disclosure. Ran another Carfax 60 days after purchase still clean.Carfax will do nothing will not use again or trust a dealer using Carfax evidently you can pay Carfax to give you a clean report. when car was sold at auction it was disclosed it had been in a wreck and had frame damage. Dealer did not disclose this. Hiding behind Carfax.

The idea of carfax is great. And I have used it in the past to check up on vehicles I was interested in and both experienced success and also rejected the car in question because of what carfax unearthed. However, the unlimited carfax plan costs 55$, and only is valid to use for THIRTY DAYS. I'm sorry, but have any of at carfax HQ EVER been car shopping?? Especially recently, there are very few cars worth purchasing once you research them! Now, I, like the majority of Americans, have a low and limited income. 55$ is considered a pretty penny in my financial world. I have been looking for a car since the middle of January 2014, and have yet to find a decent running car for a decent price. And because I purchased the carfax plan at the beginning of march, when I found a nice looking car at the beginning of this week, I was unable to run a carfax on it and approve it before someone else bought it out from under me because my subscription had already expired. 55$ ought to be worth at least a dollar a day.

I am a car fax fan. I purchase a few vehicles and without bidding I always run a car fax. It saved me from bidding on the bikes that were misrepresented due too the accurate information provided. I was able to drive the price down to include potential mechanical problems and secure a proper evaluation at a dealership where the damage was found to be minimal. I was able to legal second my original offer in order to cover costs the dealership stated were necessary. No argument from the seller just a reduction in price taking a fair deal. THANKS VERY MUCH Mr. Car Fox. Thanks to you I obtained a fair deal. The owner couldn't deny just apologized. I always use this to purchase any used even new vehicle, money well spent. It saved me 800.00 and turned a risky deal into a great deal. Thanks car Fox. Jeremy Bent.

My 17 year old son car went the way of the junkyard. I was faced with the task of finding him a good used car. I had 10K to find a car that that would suit him. Many cars advertised on car lots and craigslist were defective in some way. It saved me no less then three times: 1) One guy brought me an beautiful Toyota Avalon for $8600, I ran the plate and the VIN number did not match to the car. Further review of the car noted that the tail ights had water in them. 2) One in a car lot showed that it had been immersed. 3) One car had been in the shop computer issue at least 4 times. Finally we found a vehicle that had a clean title and looked as though it had been maintained. Thanks Carfax; Expensive but worth the money...

CARFAX always helps me weed out the "bad" cars. I was down to two vehicles. While both had low miles, one had been a one-owner vehicle. The other had been through 3 owners, and spent 4 years up north. CARFAX presents information in easy-to-read format, and is very detailed. Recommend it to everyone looking for a car.

I just purchased a 2007 Dodge Grand Caravan SXT in great shape and low mileage. The car checked out excellent with my mechanic. I did a CARFAX report on this car and it revealed no previous problems. It gave me the confidence to buy the car. The car's value shown in the report gave me a measurement of what price to negotiate for the car.

I had decided to by that sports car I always wanted, I had waited and saved long enough. I have always been into automobiles and know many pitfalls new owners can face when buying a car, especially something that could be tuned or raced. So many sports cars are poorly maintained or have had a slew of owners. My search took several months but I started to narrow it down to a handful of choices that seemed to be the biggest bang for the buck using Carfax. Between a Lotus Elise and several variations of Corvette I stumbled upon a great deal on a show quality C5 Corvette with very low miles. It was Carfax that gave me the confidence that this Vette was actually all it seemed to be; the car had a very detailed record of all service activity going back to the original owner and the car only had two. Everything was dealer maintained and by the looks of the Carfax report it had been maintained regularly and well. Even through the car was purchased through a dealer who had a guarantee I still felt better knowing the complete history. In the end I drove away in my awesome new Corvette. Thanks Carfax!

When I first began looking for a car, I thought I was pretty smart when it came to searching for vehicles. The first car I was getting ready to buy I decided to run a report. I had known it had been in an accident and repaired before, but CarFax let me know that it had been junked before (which is a little different than Salvage, but the same troubles) That saved me the money and headache. On the 2nd car I ran through Carfax I bought it.... and unfortunately was in an accident and totaled it 4 days later!!! So the search has continued and the title fox (which my 2yr old daughter thinks is adorable on my CarFax App) has helped me along the way. The one thing I did not like is that you are a little mislead by the "Unlimited Reports" and it's confusing until you realize it's unlimited License Plates. This hasn't been too much of a problem for me and almost every "Dealer" out there offers a CarFax report now anyways. It's amazing to me the amount of cars being sold with previous accidents or Salvaged titles that the average person not using CarFax wouldn't even realize. Remember that when looking for cars in online posts, if people are hiding their license plates I now assume they know we can run their plate number and have something to hide. I just don't bother with them anymore! Also there is the occasional license plate that CarFax can not read, like mine which is a special issued Press Photographer plate by the DMV. (I know this one is silly too) But another thing we have done sometimes as a family game is to run random cars on the highways license plate numbers to guess who has taken the best care of their cars or has been in accidents before.... LOL. Driving in Los Angeles... the drivers are horrible and it kind of makes sense!

They advertised "unlimited" searches. Read the fine print! The "unlimited" applies to license number searches which is useless. We all need unlimited VIN searches when purchasing from a dealership. ( Did anyone ever see a license plate on a dealer car for sale!)
