“Disgraceful ”

★☆☆☆☆

written by WymondhamCamper on 28/08/2013

Big site for camping an caravans, was a little concerned on check in that there was no firm pitch assigned for this busy bank holiday weekend and a total disregard of the 6m fire break between pitches rule. Very small and dirty facilities, only two showers and 3 toilet cubicles per gender for well over 500 campers! The weekend got worse when the drains blocked an raw sewage was gushing into the children's play area, this happened at least 3 times over the weekend. Blamed on kids thawing stones down the drains? We were also trouble by more sewage flooding in another part of the site, raw sewage was left on the grass for two days until we left. When I could take no more I complained and eventually was told that if I did not like then go home! Site also lacked any local bins or recycling, the disposal area was at the entrance, by Monday the bins were overflowing with no where but the floor available to dump rubbish. Such a shame, could be really nice site with some investment and better site management.

“Absolutely unsafe disgusting”

This is the most unsafe disgusting site I have ever been on and we have been camping for over 30 years. Do not take children there. The facities are unhygenic and the owner os very rude when you complain. My husband and brother in law were both scalded in the show and the toilets and washing up facilities very dirty. When I complained he winked at me. I consider the fact that to wash up you are looking in to the toilet a child protection issue. I am making a formal complaint to suffolk county council and environmental health. DON'T GO.

In response to the two reviews I would like to give readers the opportunity to hear both sides of the story.

The reviewers in this case were given full refunds. I explained that there is a difference between neglect and vandalism. Following the incident with the blocked drains which was caused by half bricks being thrown down the drains by a group of children, resulted in over 100 metres of drainage pipes being dug up and replaced. My attempts over the weekend to clear the blockage which included a specialist company being called in were only successful in the short term. The long term solution following the weekend was extensive repairs.

I tried to explain the situation to the two families but their response was to confront me in the shop and use bad language before demanding a refund. I refunded them in full but they continued the abuse and informed me that they intended to continue with their bad reviews. At this point I suggested they left the site.

I fully understand their annoyance regarding their concerns and can only apologise but in this particular case it was an act of vandalism that caused the blockage which was beyond our control. The comment regarding the waste being left for two days is also incorrect. Efforts were made on two occasions to wash away the waste as soon as it was noticed.

With regard to the bins. We supply five industrial bins which under usual circumstances are adequate. On this particular weekend a static van owner decided it was a good idea to clear his van for the new season. The articles consisted of two bike frames, one futon mattress, an assembled bbq, a set of plastic garden furniture, the contents of his teenagers bedroom cupboards, four duvets and blankets, a microwave, the unfolded bow for the new microwave, an unfolded box to a new tv plus numerous other assorted items. The result was at the start of the bank holiday We were left with three of our five bins full.

I spoke to the individual and received an apology. It was a pity it didn't,t solve the problem over the weekend.

Thankfully the majority of people realise there's usually two sides to every story and this is a typical case.

On a brighter note our new shower block, shop, reception, laundry and cafe is near completion and will be ready for the new season.

As a gesture of goodwill I would like to invite the two families who chose to leave their comments a free weekend's stay at the site once our new facilities are up and running.

Please feel free to call me if you would like to accept our offer.
