Do Not Use This Ostend-ramsgate Service Unless Yo

Do not use this Ostend-Ramsgate service unless you are a commercial driver and intend to sleep during the crossing.

No shopping or duty free. No credit card. This was not apparent when we booked. Very limited restaurant with poor food only open for first hour and a half. Poor and expensive coffee and snack bar.

Very slow crossing - ours took five hours. In calm seas. No explanation given for the extra hour taken. Very poor communication in general. No sense of being welcome.

The ferry is tatty, much of it not used / run down and shabby. There is nothing to do at the Ostend office / waiting room. A truly disappointing experience.

Dear Fellow Travellers, Do Not Use Ld

Dear Fellow travellers,

DO NOT USE LD LINES

On the 22nd of Novemeber 2009 at 10:30am while we were queing for the ferry we received a call from LD lines to let us know that there was to be no crossing on account of the bad weather. No alternative transport were offered. When we asked what we should do, they told us to arrange alternative transport ourselvees and to obtain a refund the following day.

We made a booking with Eurotunnel that morning, the costs we incurred were Eur 176.00.

The following day I wrote to LD Lines representative who said that LD lines would not refund us the Eur 176 but merely give us the money back of the cancelled "leg" of £25.

Please note that we did not ask LD lines to refund the costs incurred of driving around trying to find alternative transport, phonecalls we had to make to arrange a crossing with another provider, neither the pet-care costs incurred in the UK due to us arriving late in Dover: we asked them to only refund us only for the alternative transport reserved of Eur 176 as we understand they do not have control over the weather but they did promise us a return to the UK on Sunday the 22nd. In addition, the conditions do state that LD lines would "endeavour to arrange a suitable alternative crossing", which they did not do.

We are very dissapointed in this ferry provider - first of all for the delay of 2 hrs due to some broken down ferries on the previous Friday and secondly because of the the handling and lack of training of their staff dealing with cancellations. Especially being refused a refund after going to the trouble to arrange it ourselves!

LD lines does not provide a "quality" service to their customers in my opinion.
