Do Not Book Through Vakance Travel Agency

They manage fantastic properties in Croatia, you get to their holiday rentals through several holiday search engines. Unfortunately I do not recommend doing business with them. Here are a few reasons:

1. not a civilised agency with Western style business. The style of communication is like in the old communist days when they did a favour to the customer and not vica versa.

2. they overcharged us (65 Euros above the mutually agreed total cost) which they claimed they would "refund" a month or so later. I never managed to get an explanation for this, either from their conditions, the contract, or any other document.

3. when i asked for the reason, they shouted at me, and they blackmailed with calling the police etc (I was considering the same, but it would not have been good for my children to get into a fight)

4. they take your passport when you arrive, and do not give it back unless you do as they wish (pay this overcharge for which there is no reason or explanation still), so you are trapped.

So for you it is all the same wether the owner takes the passport , or the agency ?

Probably for you is the same who overcharged you (if so ), the owner or the agency (because you pay the rest of the amount to the owner)?

Communication like in old communist days, with whoom the owner of the facility or with the agency ?

Please make it clear to the readers, have you been talking here about agency or the owner in all these claims, because this is definitelly not the same ?

And I will explain further ;

Vakance Travel is an online agency whose main task is to provide contact between the private owners of private accommodation facilities and the guests.

In this respect agency has the contract with the private owners, and tries to fulfill both the owners and guests needs.

When the guests chooses accommodation unit on agencys web pages, requests the reservation and pays the avans for reservation, the agency sends the voucher to the guest, with owners contact data.

In this moment, usually agencys work is ower, because from that moment the guest communicates with the owner, and pays him directly the rest of the money for accommodation upon arrival.

However if any problem arises, agency can help solving the problem, but it is responsible only for accuraccy of data on agencys web page, as well as contract. The agency cannot be responsible for any private missunderstanding between the owner and the guest, for a simple reason, the guest and the owner of facility are equal !!!

Because we are not talking about hotel here, but a private accommodation facility, which is by definition cheaper alternative to hotels.

Owner rents it to get some extra money, the same way as the guest wants to spare some money, so he chooses private accommodation instead of hotel.

Therefore, the owner and the guest are two private equal persons in this bussines, and the agency only helps to connect them.

So if you had a bad experience with an owner of the facility, on agencys web page there is a possibility to rewiew this facility and its owner, which meny people do. There you have a chance to tell the world that this owner is bad.

This is how it functions in most of online agencies all over the world.

Why did you instead choose to blame the agency which did its part of the job correctly ?

I did not elaborate great details as they were not relevant to the comment. Yes, the owner takes the passport; but they strongly collaborate with the Agency. Another point is that the owners often do nto speak any languages, or they are hardly there at all anyway, so the main contact is anyway through the agency. So this comment does not change the validity of our complaint and negative experiences.

I came up accidentally on this comment, and cannot belive what I read.

Even if person feels that he has been treated somehow unfair, he or she should stick to the truth, at least mostly ?

For example, booking is made online, and after that the guest receives the voucher from the agency with accommodation owners contact data.

From that point forward the guest has direct contact with the owner of facility, goes there with information provided in voucher, pays the rest of the money to the owner, and THE OWNER takes the passport from the guest. There is no agency there to take the passport, and this person is infact talking about his experience with the owner, not with the agency !!!

The owner is the one who takes the passport
