You can’t trust this company. They kept taking money from my account every month and I didn’t receive any job except the fake call and messages about the job. And any time I tell then and complain, they do nothing but continuing to deduct the payment every month. It was very hard time for me like a nightmare, by taking my money and don’t offer me any job. Until I stopped paying them. Now, the lawyers of that company have sent me a threatening letter. Can anyone pleas tell me how can I complain and face them?????

I understand that they only require 6 months of experience to be listed. We have had a few successful appointments but it seems completely random and many of them just act like bandits. If you try to withhold payment when they have not done what was agreed they just threaten you. If there are concerns over quality of work they do not care and just insist on full payment anyway. If you try to get anything in writing before they run a mile. You can post a negative review as a last resort but the tradesmen then has a right to reply and it seems the consumer has no further right of response, however defamatory the reply is. Hopeless. I am unlikely to use them again.

My partner closed his business to start a new venture last year so no longer needed checkatrade for his old business (£180 pm) they told him he was in a contract and could not leave but could go on the lowest tariff at £35 pm and then they would cancel when his contract ended - he has made several phone calls since and made it very clear he wanted to leave when his contract was up. They have renewed it without his knowledge, no letter, no email - apparently they tried to call but no voicemail left they have also said there is nothing logged to say he has contacted them at all, even though he must have to lower his tariff!! The contract renewed today and now he has to commit to paying £35 pm for another year! He said he would cancel the direct debit to be told they will take him to small claims court ????. We are a family of 6 and it is difficult times I think this is absolutely abhorrent behaviour and they should be disgusted with themselves!! I'm not surprised to see all the 1 star reviews if I could I wouldn't even give them the 1! Please leave reviews as they're hiding behind reviews for work carried out for customers by decent tradesmen.

I am at my witt's end, I initially thought it was a good idea, what a mistake. They promised a month free, with 4 leads, received nothing, contacted them they advised that they have to carry out background checks but the free period starts when I called, I tried to cancel, they kept me on with a hard sell for another month free, no leads came, PLI lapsed, gas safe reg lapsed, had a hard time through covid time but they don't care Now I am being chased through the courts for nearly £1500 for a service that I never ever received. I have tried to explain that I am not even self employed but they won't accept that without a contract which I didn't have and an email from the employer was not enoy. They are here supposedly to cut out, I'd rather deal with the former than the gangsters these guys are. Absolutely revolting disgusting behaviour, £1500 for a few headed bits of paper and a pen, they would even keep me on knowing that I cannot apply my trade legally! Without insurance! What a painful learning experience, they are the equivalent of the dodgy double glazing salesmen, the solicitors acting on their behalf should be ashamed of themselves. Everything is recorded on the phone, which they conveniently erase after a short period even though there is a dispute. My advice, learn from my mistake, don't get burnt keep well away and tell everyone else you know the same tell them to tell everyone else too!

Checkatrade was taken over by a very dodgy insurance company called Homeserve. Homeserve - we couldn't care less about. Very much look forward to them trying to sue us. Very very dodgy insurance company. Last year, July 2022, Checkatrade took out of our account, as so many of other tradesmen mentioned, £2,900. We cancelled our Direct Debit, because they should have never taken that amount and they broke the Direct Debit Mandate that they signed up to. They are supposed to give 3 days notice before they change the Direct Debit. When they were challenged on this, they ran away, never came back to us for 3 months. They cancelled our membership on December 9th, but we already made it very clear that we were going to leave them in July. They employed a very dodgy Solicitor firm called Shoosmiths Solicitors, who sent the Court letters to a different address, not to us but to themselves, acting as if they were representing us. As we never received the paperwork, they automatically applied for Judgment for £8,000. The fools Shoosmiths Solicitors spent over 500.00 to act dodgily in the Courts. The funny is we never paid them anything and to all the other tradesmen, do not pay a singe penny. Shoosmiths have been struck off so many times by the Regulator, but they keep on changing their company names, hence why Homeserve (Vetted ltd/Checkatrade) use them. Checkatrade offers a 3 months free trial to new tradesmen because Checkatrade is not working. You don't offer free trials if you are a successful business. Then they tie you up for 12 months when you try to leave. A very dodgy company. We left Checkatrade last year, best thing we ever did. Extremely dodgy company. Homeserve have altered the algorithm to benefit themselves and Checkatrade, their own company, which totally goes against tradesmen. We look forward to Homeserve/ Vetted ltd/Checkatrade and Shoosmiths Solicitors trying to sue us, totally corrupt companies that constantly have to change their names (Shoosmiths).

If you're a tradesmen or a homeowner that's had the misfortune of using checkatrade, contact trading standards, if enough of us complain they will get in trouble. Stay away from checkatrade!

Whether or not you're a tradesmen or a homeowner stay well away from Checkatrade. They're liars and trick people into a verbal contract based on lies. Promised me a minimum of 4 RELEVANT leads a month and heavily implied I would get more. I've honestly not had a single relevant lead to quote. Paying £100 a month and getting zero value for it. If you're a homeowner you might be interested in one of the so called vetting questions that tradesmen are asked, "can you confirm that you have a minimum of 6 months experience in your trade"? You can't learn any trade in 6 months, this is how low the standards are to join, they will literally accept anyone!

I am leaving Checkatrade . One of the main reasons I am leaving is that on the Request a Review which we can automatically send out when we have completed a job - they ask the customer the price of the job ! Absolutely nothing to do with them . Two of my customers have complained now and I approached Checkatrade and they refuse to do anything about it. I also dont like how we cant thank our customers personally its a generic reply - too much control and finally I have seen a few leaflets now distributed By checkatrade and they all had National companies in them Related to my business which I know do not offer a good service and their aftersales is non existant. So , so much for their six point check . I dont like the fact that they get to keep all my reviews - but I have taken pictures of them all and will pin Them at the top of my Facebook page instead . I literally have had a handful of jobs off them - most enquiries come to nothing - they have one reply that the customer answers which says - something like “I’m budgeting/researching” - just wasting tradespeoples time - these never come to anything - there is a cost of living crisis for tradespeople as well and we are not wasting our time and money going out to do quotes for people who are time wasting. I will put £1500 a year in to alternative advtg that I have control of .

Meant to be impartial but biased towards the consumer. Received our first and only negative fabricated review, since being with Checkatrade for 5 years. Sent Checkatrade all evidence photos, emails, invoices etc. The review was still published. Only limited to a few sentences in our "right to reply". No support for our small business. Very disappointed. They are happy to take your money and the price increase greatly every year.

They are all for the customer and never for the trades person. We waited 10 weeks for a call back after numerous promises that were never met. It has been 4 weeks and we are still waiting for a refund. Very unhelpful staff

Been a member of checkatrade for over 7 years now with 190 reviews with a average score of 9.99 but when I search on checkatrade for a plumber in my area I'm 50th or further down the list so anyone can join now with less reviews and a much lower average score and be found on the first page at the top of list checkatrade says that it is so everyone gets a fair share of calls what they really mean is they need new members to join so after 7 years of hard work building up great reviews so that i could be found on the top most of the time ive wasted my money with checkatrade,when i first Signed up i was told keep getting good reviews regularly as it helps to stay ahead of my competitors £800 when I first joined now £2100 and only about 1 tenth of customer inquiries every week

As a small firm of builders, I had been a member of Checkatrade for 5 years and in that time gathered over 25 excellent reviews. However and alas, we delivered a small job for a customer who made regular defaults to the agreed payments terms; disputed the agreed scale of works and thus, depite numerous attempts to correct matters, the customer wrote a vague but critical review about us to Checkatrade. I went to a great deal of time and trouble to provide Checkatrade with clear evidence that payments had been missed along with other evidence along with how we worked to resolve matters etc but Checkatrade instisting on publishing this false review. Very detrimental to my business and so I removed my compnay from their site. What really frustated me is the way in which this matter was dealt. No one from their review team had the curtesy of contcating (directly or via email) me in order to ask for further clarification. Absolutely astonishing! Anyone thinking of joining Checkatrade be warned - if this is how they treat one of their 5 year members then think what they will be like with a fledgling business. I wanted to write to one of their directors in order to make them aware of their shortfalls in dealing with matter such as this. Stay clear!

A Disappointing Experience with Checkatrade - Beware! I recently had the displeasure of using Checkatrade, and I feel compelled to warn others about my experience with this company. What initially seemed like a promising platform turned out to be nothing more than a sham. Despite their assurances of providing numerous job opportunities and a valuable service, I quickly discovered that Checkatrade is owned by Homeserve, and it appears that they reserve the best jobs for themselves. The jobs I was offered through the platform were low-quality and undesirable. It became evident that many large businesses using Checkatrade only pay for the lowest membership tier to have their name listed, rather than utilizing the platform for actual job opportunities. When I realized I wasn't getting value for my money, I encountered further issues. Even if Checkatrade is in default of the agreement, they will aggressively pursue any outstanding payments, resorting to underhanded tactics like sending letters to the wrong address to secure a default court win. They employ an unscrupulous company called Shoosmiths to carry out these actions, and you may even face high court enforcement officers. The entire ordeal is incredibly stressful. Moreover, if you miss payments or have a paperwork query due to their own administrative errors, Checkatrade will freeze your account but still continue to charge you monthly fees. In my case, when I initially signed up and tried to go live on the platform, they took my money but failed to activate my account for weeks, citing a clerical error. Communication with their customer service was a nightmare; the representatives were unhelpful and seemingly uninformed. Overall, I would advise against using Checkatrade. There are better alternatives out there, such as Yell, that offer a more reliable and professional service. Save your time, money, and sanity by avoiding this company

A week ago this review would have been 5 stars, but i feel i must warn anyone who is thinking of joining check-a-trade, to think wisely. We have been loyal members, sticking to rules, and banked multiple 10 out of 10 reviews, in fact, we did not even have 1 bad review over the past 14 months, we spent into the thousands of pounds on embroidered uniform, tshirts, jackets, hoodies, rain coats, male, female, van wrapping, all with check-a-trade logo's. 3 days ago i recieved an email stating we had been reported as cold calling by an anonymous person, so they are terminating my membership with immediate effect, revoking all affiliate rights, and we're to remove all logos from our website, uniform, vans etc etc etc... Now my partner is a 20 year veteran of the met police, im more than aware of rules and regulations, and we hire an 18 year boy to "post" leaflets through doors, so i called check-a-trade, as one could imagine, a complete overhaul of everything would cost in the thousands to remove & replace, so surely, there must be some form of proof that we have been doing this, so i got through, spoke to a teenager, who was at home, read the email he had on the screen in front of him, and robotically said its against our policy to cold call, I explained this was wrong, and that we were posting leaflets, he said I've sent an email to my manager, and will call you back in the morning... Nobody called, my profile was deleted, every one of the reviews I and my team worked tirelessly for !!! Gone/deleted, and without so much as a manager to call me & say, "well hang on, this could be a malicious call, or maybe even a grumpy person who hates leaflets coming through their door so much, that without really thinking of the damage that making an accusation like this, could cause to small companies like mine, that worked day and night to build their company from nothing. So now just think for a second, imagine, anybody could ring, competition maybe, or a disgruntled person, make an accusation of cold calling, and they will delete everything, without offering a shred of proof, litterally no explanation, other than "someone said", no my vans have to be taken in for logos to be removed, new uniform throughout the entire company, a web designer will need to be paid to overhaul the site removing all logos, diary's, binned, stationary, binned... But most of all, think about the reviews you will lose... I paid for meal out for every single review my customers left us, a dine out card was sent as a thank you for taking the time to review us... I am a 1 in a million company owner, who has worked for the people who just wanted the money, did rubbish work and left them calling with no answer... I made sure I did everything right, I knew how to make my clients happy, and if that meant paying some company to say I am a "checked trader", then so be it... Snd for it to end in such a disrespectful way, is utterly unbelievable. I have since found that trust a trader are aware of malicious calls such as the one thats going to cost me £1, 000. 00s, and to combat this, they actually build a case, ask for solid proof, for example, video footage of a person doing the deed itself, presenting it, way before deleting your account and everything in it.... I wasnt going to ever touch a company such as this again, but knowing that trust a trader will actually do some basic customer care calls, and investigative measures, before cutting you off at the knees for something that never happened... Well i have no choice... I will have my admin ladys spread this throughout social media platforms to raise tgis awareness, and really to warn people of the ramifications of signing up with this company.... Who by the way did absolutely no checks on my company whatsoever, nor did they call and customers to check quality of workmanship before allowing me to be registered as a "checked and verified company".... So the whole thing has been one large money making transaction for them, only to finish with a massive blow financially for my company. I flew your flag for over a year, spreading good word about you, and advertised your company for you, while paying you! You should be named and shamed for the crookery in which you twll the general public that you check companies, when you actually only checked that I had a public liability insurance in place before putting me on your books, and hounding me for months to upgrade to the ultimate tradesman account. which believe it or not, I was about to do, to utilise your leads. .. thanks for nothing "check-a-trade" !

Absolutely disgraceful Company to deal with TIE YOU IN TO A 12 MONTH CONTRACT so beware when signing up to this sham. Publish positive reviews on Companies in liquidation, allow the general public to post negative reviews even though they have never used your services, breach their own contracts and hide behind excuses, promise manager return calls ( none as yet ) These really are the people that should be investigated they trick honest working people AVOID AT ALL COSTS !!!

I have been a member for five years and accumulated over a 100 + good reviews with this company soon as u get one complaint or bad review your membership will get cancelled after they hound u for thousands to refund your customer they wanted 2.5k out of me over a few chipped tiles from a job I completed two years ago. TUT TUT CHECKATRADE AVOID

Advertise else where, you may get calls initially but it doesn’t last and you end up in 7 th place in your area, with companies 10 miles away at the top, something is definitely going on here, no consumer is going to call a company 7 the list are they, surely if it is geographical search for a company it would make sense your business would be up there along with the other business in that area, but no… please read up on checkatrade before you part with any money
