My father died and left 4 holdings with Equiniti, not large amounts and as his estate was not subject to probate, Equiniti charged £148.50 to transfer the holdings into the name of the executor under a small estate classification. In addition to this we were advised there were other mandatory costs associated with selling the shares set at a minimum of £60 or 1.5% of each holding, further investigations revealed this to be untrue as you can at least circumvent this by dealing online (after creating a new account). Selling online will still result in an additional £120 in charges alone. Throughout the 5 month process of trying to cash in the shares (which is now nearly, but not yet over), dealing with Equiniti has been a nightmare of mixed messages and incompetancy that has required numerous phone calls to try and move things forward. I would advise anyone to either not use this company or withdraw your holdings to save someone else a similar painful experience.
