“A piece of garbage, litter.”

★☆☆☆☆

written by Jormela on 18/06/2018

My machine has had very little use. When I do use it the thread break, the presser foot drops. It knots the top thread with the bottom making it impossible to remove the fabric without damage. Everything that could go wrong has gone wrong. Now its the embroidery unit it fell apart. No way of getting help to fix it. to buy a new one its over a thousand dollars. I had a brother before and it was amazing. I'll go back to brother. Husqvarna HAD a good name but now its rubbish.

“Five years going strong”

written by mmZimmerman66 on 21/02/2017

I bought my Topaz 30 about five years ago from a local dealer who provided EXCELLENT teaching and support. I truly believe buying from a local dealer with good support and classes is key to your satisfaction. I was new to machine embroidery and definitely had a learning curve but love it!!

“HV Topaz30 total waste of money”

★☆☆☆☆

written by Irisp on 13/01/2017

I too agree with u all..... HV topaz 30 is junk n waste of money invested. I have not made a single design on it. Whenever I start the machine either the foot drops down with screeching sound or its machine overload. Purchased the machine in 2011 and have been to the dealer n number of times with no improvement but only reasons. Now they have started a new way of extracting money by saying we have this part and that, but with no results. So please be careful before buying any Husquvarna machines

“Designer Topaz 30 is JUNK”

★☆☆☆☆

written by AnastasiaBarker331 on 14/09/2015

I wasted a huge chunk of my retirement fund on this worthless junk. I have been fighting it for over three years, have had it in the shop several times, and have talked with tech support several times. I have never gotten a single decent design out of it. I did not spend this kind of money for a sewing machine, I spent it for an 8x14 field embroidery machine. Every single design ends up with nesting, holes in the fabric, or both. I have tried every "solution" recommended, and nothing works. I have a cheap Brother machine that will spin the designs out like silk, but has a 4x4 field. I spent all this money for the bigger field, but have never gotten a single decent design out of it. Given the extra hoops I bought, trips to the repair shop, I have over $4,000 invested in this machine . . . all for nothing. I rate it one star because there is no option for -4 stars. Don't waste your money on this piece of junk.

Never heard of Huskquvarna until about 5yrs ago. I have the Designer Topaz 30 also I only use Gutterman thread but I understand what you're saying. I bought the machine to make clothes (novice sewer), have problems with basic stitches, if you sew too fast the stitch will become distorted & will bunch. I use the foot peddle on the floor because I'm not good enough even at slow speed to use the touch screen. An early Christmas gift 5yrs ago I would love to trade it in but we don't have the kind of $$$ they want for the new machines. Overall I find the machine to be temperamental & the in store lessons insufficient.

They recently came out with a longer cutting blade that seems to eliminate the nesting. Good luck,

I agree with you. I brought mine in 11/14 for the same purpose & it has been in the shop since 11/15 & no one seems to be able to fix it or tell me what is going to happen if it can't be fixed. I expect I will be hit with a huge bill (that I can't afford) or they will want to offer to buy back on trade-in for a much more expensive machine which I also can't afford. I don't think I will come out on the winning end of this situation. Wish I had read the reviews before my purchase.

“Constant "main motor overload" message.”

★☆☆☆☆

written by harrietthousewife on 20/07/2015

My Husqvarna Viking Topaz 30 sewing machine has been a problem almost from the beginning. I was told it would sew upholstery just as well as the Viking machine I had for over 35 years. However, it will not sew through more than two layers of canvas or marine fabric. It constantly tangles on the lower side of the fabric. I have changed needle size, sewed very slowly, and constantly re-threaded the machine and bobbin. I've followed all the advice of a local Viking rep. The woman who sold it to me (& made promises of help she had no intention of keeping) closed her business. Joanne's Fabric store has a Viking rep. and the rep. sent it in for repairs at great cost to me even tho I never did anything that would break it. But, it still does the same thing. I will NEVER purchase another Viking sewing machine if I live long enough to be able to afford purchasing another sewing machine. As far as I am concerned they were wrong when they told me it would sew upholstery fabric. It's motor is not made to take it. I'm heartbroken to have spent $4000 for a machine that will not do what I was told it would do.

Mine does the same thing. It's new as of this spring. I just tried to sew a purse and it kept stopping with the error message, main motor overload. Shop says nothing is wrong. This machine is not made to go thru many layers of material. Sigh.... I lost a lot of money for a machine that can't do what others can. So disappointing that I'll quit sewing now. No other option since I'm stuck with it. I don't want to pay lots of money for material it will ruin. And I don't have money to buy another machine. Doesn't seem fair that no one can help.

“will not work”

★☆☆☆☆

written by Tonyf132 on 23/02/2015

Bought this machine 10 months ago, have not yet managed to sew a piece of embroidery on it! Awaiting yet another call from Husqvarna 'specialist' to establish whether there is anything more I can do at home to resolve the problem rather than having to send it back - again!! Straight sewing, fancy stitches. button holes great, but it is an embroidery machine which doesn't embroider- my £250 cheapy will do all above, my old Janome memory craft is a better embroidery machine - just has a small field of operation & Husqvarna support is appalling.

I don't know if this will help, but on YouTube there is a 60 some videos on every option of the topaz 30. Creative Heirlooms placed the videos. They were very helpful. My topaz 30 I bought in January. It is in the shop going on 8 weeks. I've heard every excuse. I so wish I had my money back.

“Love the Topaz 30. Have had it now for over 5 years...”

written by Jeremiah5 on 01/10/2014

Love the Topaz 30. Have had it now for over 5 years and still love it. The only problem I have had is.......I had to pack it away for over 6 months as we were moving. When I got it back out I had forgotten how to use it. When I contacted the new dealer where we moved they told me that I would need to update all my embroidery software OR I would have to pay her 30 bucks an hour for her to show me how to use my software. I went to a great quilters craft show and talked with a dealer there. She was so nice and gave me her business card. I then called her if I had a problem and now I am using my software. NO Charge. I also call the dealer where I bought it if I have questions. They don't seem to have a problem helping me without charge. I now drive over an hour to go to a dealer since the one close to me doesn't want to help without a charge.

“Viking Topaz 30”

If you are in need of sewing anything over the thickness of 1/4" don't buy this machine. I was promised it could sew leather and denim with no problem. Wrong. It always goes into "main motor overload". I then have to transfer to one of my other machines to finish the task. I sew apparel, do alterations, and teach people to learn to sew and design. This is one machine I advice my students to stay away from. This machine can not handle the basic material. I gave up my work horse, Bernina 1130, for this supposed upgrade. I do patches for a company, however, the machine will only recognize one hoop even though I have had it serviced. They are not sure why it will only read one hoop. The hoop that it reads is the 120 x 120. Very inconvenient and a much unwanted headache. This is not the product that the old Vikings of long ago.

“Husqvarna Viking Sewing/Embroidery Machines”

★★★★★

written by on 07/12/2013

I have been sewing on Husqvarna Viking machines for 10 years. I am in love with them. They offer features that I cannot find on any other brand. If you purchase from the right dealer, you will get plenty of help with any issue you have. I also use the Viking Embroidery software and my dealer has always been very helpful to help me reload anytime I get a new Computer. I have friends who have not changed software in 5 years and still like it. From talking with my friends who own other brands, Viking has no more problems than any other brand. Usually only the problems get reviewed, not the praises.

This is the only Viking I have ever owned' and as far as I am concerned, it is worthless. I have never gotten a single design out of it. It nests and bunches and tears holes in my fabric. I only use it for embroidery. I did not spend $3,000+ for a sewing machine. I have a Singer, a Brother, and a Kenmore for that, and they all sew circles around this piece of junk. I am not a novice, I have been sewing for nearly 50 years and have never had this kind of trouble from a sewing machine. I am also a technogeek who has spent over 30 years working with computers, software and programming. I have never been so frustrated in my life as I have been with this pile of rubble. I am debating whether to use it for a doorstop or a bumper block for our truck, it obviously isn't suitable for anything else. I should have taken my money to Vegas and wasted it there instead. Maybe then I would have at least gotten a little enjoyment out of flushing nearly $4,000 (including extra hoops and cds) down the toilet!

“It may not be your fault!”

★★☆☆☆

written by on 05/06/2013

My machine and the local shop's are Topaz 30, not 20 as stated: We bought our Topaz 20 at a quilt show in Pomona CA from an AZ dealer in January 2010. We had exceeded the capabilities of our 1972 Kenmore (actually still going strong) and were impressed with the projects produced at the show attributed to that Topaz 20. We had trouble with it immediately, though I could nurse it along by very carefully regulating its speed. Our friends (Bernina owners) strongly suggested careful thread selection and frequent needle replacement. Did lots of that with some success, but still got relatively unpredictable birds nest failures. Also was promised some hoops that had been with the machine at the show, and some accessories that should have been, so called the AZ shop; THEY WERE EXCELLENT IN THEIR RESPONSE and met all our needs. We took the Topaz to the local CA Viking dealer when we kept having problems; THEY WERE EXCELLENT in giving us the prescribed VH lessons, and tried very hard to duplicate our problems – machine refused to misbehave so we eventually concluded it was our fault. Next pass through Phoenix we visited the dealer with the same results – THEY WERE VERY CONCERNED AND HELPFUL, but again machine only fails in our hands when no pros are watching. We gave up and have for three years been quilting on the ’72 Kenmore and one of my many Singers, a 1960s Golden Touch-N-Sew. Just this last weekend, I ran the VH through its paces with good results after aggressively blowing out the bobbin area and tension discs after Sue had a failure that showed loose loops on the bobbin side of the fabric. Now it was failing with any thread other than black Gutterman – THEN!!! It failed with that too while I was simply raising the bobbin thread! And I saw the loop escape the take up hook just as you did. My thoughts: Poor design! Impossible to believe that VH doesn’t know about it! Very upset about 3 years of frustration and blaming ourselves. All my Singers and our Kenmore have closed eye on takeup arm so I wrapped a wire around the lever, threaded through the eye and sewed perfectly for the rest of the day, including all grades of thread from cheap Coats and Clark to the high grade Guterman. NO FAILURES, perfect stitches, including some of the fancy ones. Removed wire – instant birds nest. Took a piece of insulation from 14 ga house wire and slipped it (friction fit) on the wire of the takeup lever until it made an interference fit when threading (thread normally but snaps past the fix point). Visited the local VH rep shop where she had a Topaz 20 on display and allowed me to look at the takeup lever – very different bends and much tighter gap! Lots of sewing the rest of the weekend using Coats And Clark Walmart thread – all functions normal. We see no reason to trust the machine to the experts and will never buy VH again. Poor design and very irresponsible corporate attitudes and policies. For the first time, we are going to take the embroidery unit out of the box and try to learn to embrioder. Local rep is going to tutor us.

Hi, I also had the same problem. I purchased a spool extension (around £20) - the extension basically sits on top of the spool pin and your thread goes up before then being threaded (if you see what I mean). I no longer have any problems. I spent a fortune sending my machine in to be fixed, the tension didn't work properly etc, but now it is fine. Try it :)

I've learned it is the way you place the spool on your machine. Was always warned NOT to use Coats thread in my Viking it would always break. But I watched a video on Crafty form Cindy Needham a spoke person for Superior thread. She explained whys the threads my be braking and it was okay to use the lesser thread. Having a basket full of coats thread my mother always used I tried it and I be damn the thread work smooth as silk,

“Fantastic Machine”

★★★★★

written by Julieann100 on 12/09/2012

I last sewed about 30 years ago and suddenly I decided that I wanted to do some machine embroidery. I was amazed by the number of machines available and in the end decided on the Husqvarna Topaz 30. I have owned the machine for about 18 months and I cannot believe the difference in my skills. I was never an accomplished sewer, however, after not very long I found that I could do many different things that I would have never attempted before. The machine is so easy to use and does so many things for you - even down to fixing the stitches at the beginning and end of your seams etc! However, you don't pay this sort of price just for a sewing machine - but you do pay it for a superb embroidery and sewing machine. Again, it is so easy to use and completes the embroidery perfectly. This is something that I bought on a whim, but for me, it has proved to be an excellent purchase. The only downside is the astronomical cost of the optional software that you may wish to purchase. I have bought the 5d embroidery software but I do not feel that it was what I wanted. Ideally I would love the 5d Professional, but at a cost of £1099, I really cannot justify it (just yet;) )

“Difficult to get repaired”

I have a Husvarna Viking Topaz 30. It has a manufacturing fault, but I have to pay to get the machine to the manufacturers even though they will correct it free. The software goes out of date very quickly and you dont get help if you update your computer, they would rather tell you that you need new software rather than explain how to down load your exsisting software onto your new computer.

I don't blame you for being upset. You need a new dealer. Husqvarna has updates to some of its software online and has to new drivers that you would need when you get a newer computer. But your dealer should be the one to help you through things. I'm sorry you aren't getting the service that you need.
