“Disappointed. ”

★★★☆☆

written by on 25/08/2018

Bought for my Granddaughter (age 9) to learn to use and share with me, a more experienced seamstress. Plastic casing feels cheap (which it was to buy). Lack of choice of stitch length in each stitch chosen. Quite difficult to thread before putting cotton through needle. Still haven't worked out how to use the needle threader. Granddaughter likes it and finds stitch choices easy to manage. She is still getting used to controlling the speed of the foot pedal. Wish I'd chosen a more expensive, better quality, machine.

“Mixed experience ”

I ordered a brother v5. Told it comes directly from manufacturers, so would be 3-5 days delivery. At 7 days I contacted them. A few emails and had a reply. The machine arrived after tracking information from brother, with accurate info. I am happy with the machine. British Sewing Centre gave upgraded 5 yr guarantee (which I’m happy with providing they continue to trade, as I guess their guarantee is only valid if this is the case. Overall a reasonable experience.

“Vicking sewing machine ”

★★★☆☆

written by on 30/06/2018

My new viking sewing machine arrived quickly. It is easy to use and has good stitches, I love it. Only problem is, I orderd a pack of sewing machine needles at the same time as the sewing machine, and I am still waiting for them. I have contacted customer service and sent an e-mail to the address I was given, and still no answer.

“nervous but all turned out good”

★★★☆☆

written by NiaMcIntosh on 28/04/2017

Ordered my singer 4423 sewing machine on Sunday night arrived Tuesday midday. I originally looked at the British sewing centre amongst others and noticed the chat online. So I asked what would be the best machine for a beginner using Canvass, They quoted the Singer 4423 Heavy Duty. So I looked online for the machine, read reviews on the machine I watched a couple of you tube clips, and it seemed perfect for what I needed. I am a complete novice at sewing & machining. I tried to engage with the online chat again saying that I could buy the machine cheaper elsewhere, but all I received was the words saying - No 15 year servicing and guaranty. I asked when would it be delivered and it simply said –Tuesday, after that it was just chat had been ended by the person I dealt with (lol) so I thought about it and it seemed reasonable’ so I went for it. I then found some other reviews online but this time about the company itself, and I suddenly felt very nervous, every review was a 1 star rating and this was only because there was no way to not give the company any stars. I thought that I had just given my hard earned money to a scam company. I checked the invoices and looked online for the company’ I found it and was still a bit nervous’ I had paid by credit card so I had some cushion and assurance that I could get my money back eventually if it hadn’t turned up or was not in stock. But on Tuesday I received a text saying parcel force was bringing my parcel at midday’ish but the reference number didn’t match the one I had on my invoice, but when it turned up everything was there the free gifts, the sewing machine in a nice unopened box all parts included. I took photos of all the pieces as I took them out the box as proof (a bit anual I know but better safe than sorry) I kept all the packaging in tacked so if I had to send it back for any reason I could. But I’ve setup and used the machine and it is brilliant  I will have to get used to its quirk’s and learn how to use it properly but I couldn’t be happier. I’ve registered the serial number with Singer and all went well. Not sure what will happen when it needs servicing or repair but I will cross that bridge when it comes. Inside the warranty card it is highly recommended that you keep the original packaging for returning and servicing. If not’ you could buy the box from singer for 15 quid ;) All in all I am happy with what I have, even if the online chat service seemed a bit cold and no extra discount.. Thank you

“Review of customer service and sewing machine purchased”

A sewing Machine arrived in four days, as expected unfortunately the Company Sent the wrong machine, I ordered the Necchi craft master showroom model, they sent a brand new highline TSP instead . To be honest it looks exactly the same. and it has similar listings re functions but I decided to Contact, the company as I was unfamiliar with brand name "the Highline" I also thought the Necchi craft master had a drop feed. The highline only had a darning plate.and spoke to a man who assured me there had obviously been a problem at the stock room and couldn't understand why this had happened but the highline machine was made in the same factory as the Necchi and was really the same spec of machine. I said I thought the Necchi machine had a drop feed as it indicated free embroidery in its many listings, ultimately I was wrong, he however indicated the Janome range offers a machine which did have a drop feed, but I should try the highline machine for a few days to see if it worked out for me . I agreed to this and said I would get back to them, but, would it be OK to upgrade if it was affordable. He indicated Yes, but please hold on to the packaging as all returns MUST be returned in their original packages . In the meantime I also received an email stating I had not been offered the 15 year warranty extension collection and delivery service for an additional £ 54.99. Thinking this would be crucial I have also paid this amount,(so far so good)I also received an email offering me the sewing support link ( also looking good re customer service!) so I opened a ticket repeating my concerns about receiving the wrong machine, fact I had spoken to the advisor and was checking out the machine before deciding on upgrading to the Janome. (Iwas aware of their 30 day return policy)I also asked for their best price for the Janome with the drop feed in case I did not find the highline suitable.and here where the service lets you down .No one gets back to you when a ticket is raised, so I'd advise you to contact them directly and speak to the sales team if any queries. I have actually decided to keep the machine Highline as I am satisfied it meets my demands. I contacted the sales team and asked if on my records the 15 year warranty would be transferred to this machine . The lady said no problem, it would be. Generally I have found the staff to be very helpful when I have called. I simply say i will not recommend the company to a friend, because they spent me the wrong machine and do not get back to you when you open a ticket on their sewing support page. When buying online Watch out for the LEGAL 7 day return policy obligation if you find your machine is not working or unsuitable. The companies 30 day returns rule is not actually legal it is only a sales pitch made by companies.Re the 7 days law. Make sure your courier service can return it within this period and ask for a verification of return date from the courier company, even if package is refused you need this verification date to prove your case.so be prepared to contact your courier again. Record your delivery date with your delivery driver too. I usually get them to sign a delivery receipt, which I personally have produced.. Overall,I have been satisfied with the company, but as a little warning I cannot judge what would have happened if I hadn't accepted the Highline replacement machine .I will follow this review up with one more review, when I try to get my FREE annual machine service which I have been assured will take 6/10 days in length. And review if the Additional collection and delivery costsi have made, are indeed complied with.

“Strange person to deal with”

★★★☆☆

written by stufoxy on 15/06/2016

I wanted to buy a sewing machine. In this case because of the sad lack of High Street Retailers I decided to purchase on line. I came across The British Sewing Centre also know as I believe Hobby Craft/Hobby Stitch/Sewing Support/Cooper Sewing Machines (and goodness knows what other Companys are affiliated) It really comes down to one man who owns all these 'offshoots' I ordered one of their latest ADVERTISED machines being the Decorpro500. It wasn't in stock but the guy sent me a brand new Necchi to be going on with. I had paid 'up front' and my payment had been taken immediately. Eventually after many many E Mails (pretty well all of them to the various associated companies)none of which were answered I received my machine. Regretably, there was a crack in the body right in line of the cotton path when filling a spool, thereby snapping the cotton. Now, I am fairly intelligent (oh yes I am!!) but to be honest the instruction manual was a farce. It was written in pseudo English/Korean/Japanese/Taiwanese/or whatever and to be quite honest totally unreadable by a none English non linguist. To be kind to the seller - I did speak to him and was treated to a 'tirade' of abuse. May I suggest that this guy is now totally too old to run this business and of course if you care to delve back he was the 'Star' of a TV programme  which showed many many unhappy customers. My advice? Tread carefully, very carefully if you use this man and his machines. Happy shopping!!

No need to tread carefully - just give them a miss. Why give yourself such grief and trouble. If you are buying a sewing machine have a look at the reviews on Trust Pilot. There are good dealers out there worthy of your business

Why is nothing done about this company? They are taking peoples service money but you cannot get your machine serviced for love nor money. After heated discussions with the service centre I have thrown the towel in and cut my losses I just don't know who to go too.

I don't know how they are still in business. I was tricked by them too but that was many years ago. Some customers have been saying they have tidied their act up, but I'm in many sewing Facebook groups and the consensus of opinion is that they are still giving terrible service. If I was having problems with them I would take it to Trading Standards. If enough people reported him they would investigate further. I had problems with a subsequent dealer on another machine I bought and I got as far as sending many letters documenting the problems to them. When they ignored my complaint I threatened Trading Standards and the dealer finally gave me a new machine. You have to be ruthless and play him at his own game! Please don't give up - if you do he's won! Good luck

Has anyone had experience of the servicing side of this company or taken up the extended collection and return service for a one off payment? It seems too good to be true so I am very wary. All the bad reviews on here make me wonder if I should bother. I don't want to say goodbye to £60 or my machine if I send it off for service! Any advice would be welcome :-) I have to say I'm pleased with my purchase of a necchi DF4 overlocker which arrived quickly and on the day quoted. The sales team were a bit brisk and laddish and made me feel a bit nervous as to whether I was buying from a genuine site and not a boiler room! Not quite what I was expecting from a site of this name. The online chat was rude and quite useless and I was nearly put off buying because of it. However, the machine was a very good price so if counting the pounds is important you probably won't get a better price!

I'm in the same position as you I'm afraid I received my machine and was very pleased with it at first, but I've come across a couple of problems with it. I spoke to Bsc about it and I'm just waiting for a call back to say when it will be picked up and I receive a new one. Watch this space.
