“good film”

★★★★☆

written by JulianSherwood on 29/07/2016

Enjoyed the film though expected a bit more realistic graphics. Overall good entertainment and a good movie for the Sci fi fan. Also a good weekend film especially if it is wet weekend or simply want to chill out.

“An electrifying performance from Ridley Scott and Matt...”

★★★★☆

written by ogMcBride489 on 03/03/2016

To be honest with you guys I was really expecting a lot from this film because it was directed by Ridley Scott who already did an amazing job in other films such as Gladiator, Thelma and Louise or Robin Hood. Also it has got Matt Damon as the main character but we'll get to this point later. Even picking the right genre is a huge challenge because this film has a lot of different aspects. It's obviously a sci-fi film but it could be a drama or action film as well and now you'll see why. During a Mars mission a huge storm occurs and the whole team is in danger. The crew even thinks that they have lost one of their mates (Mark Watney). The crew then decides that the mission is too dangerous and leave the planet heading to the earth. This turns out to be a huge mistake because Mark Watney survived. From this point on Mark Watney, who is a botanist, has to cope with life on this planet and obviously has to look after himself. Matt Damon who is playing the main character Mark Watney has an outstanding performance yet again. He even had to lose a few kilos for the film to make it more realistic. But not only was the cast great, the film crew also did a brilliant job. They change the atmosphere that well, that you start feeling alone, although there are lots of people around you in the cinema. I honestly enjoyed the film especially the beginning because of its intensity. In the middle of the film it gets quite moving and you start to have pity for the astronaut. Sadly the film gets quite predictable at the end so it loses its tension. I still would recommend this film especially to those who are sick and tired of normal action films who all seem to have the same director. There's actually no other film you could compare to this one. You should definitely watch the martian!
