With a month off work and a limited budget I searched for a place where my time could be spent fostering my passion for animals and contributing to a worthy conservation initiative. Imire fit the profile exactly.
As a volunteer I was not only able to build valuable relationships with the knowledgable and friendly staff, but also with the beautiful elephants, rhino and lions I had the privilege of handling. The accommodation were remarkably clean, the food delicious and the programme well-organised and expertly run.
I learned so much about each animal inhabiting the reserve as well as the practical management and maintenance of the expansive and breath-taking game park. I was lucky enough to witness the arrival of a new lion to the park, camp out under the stars and see the elephants given their semi-annual injections by a local vet.
The programme co-ordinators also provided myself and the other volunteers with an unforgettable opportunity to visit Nyanga in the Eastern Highlands and even arranged for a side trip to Victoria Falls.
Overall, my experience at Imire vastly exceeded my expectations and the holiday was worth every penny.
Elephantvoice's Response to CharleyL's Review

Could you please give me more details about your experience? I am considering volunteering for 8 weeks but want to make sure this organization is legit in what they claim to do. I read you have to feed lions, hyenas and crocodiles. Why is this? Why are those animals in enclosures when this is supposedly a rhino and elephant conservation? I am trying to understand the purpose of them being there, how they came to be there, how they are treated, why they aren't in a reserve hunting for themselves. Do you have any of these responses? Any details you can give me would really be appreciated.
