Awful service from start to finish. Complaints ran over the 8 weeks period. I am a Santander customer and that's the only reason I used this travel insurance. I use it all the time however, this is the first time Iv ever had to make a claim. Poor poor show from this company. I will never use them again or recommend them.

Total disregard for wellbeing of seriously ill patient re travel insurance. Only concerned with limiting their own risk and expense. Also incompetent case management. Negligent at every level. Don't use, you will have a nightmare experience if you claim and potentially risk your health further through the stress. Should lose their licence to operate.

I am so sorry you too had the same experience. I had a medical emergency with my back I couldn’t move or use the toilet. The hospital stated I required a emergency MRI scan for the Insurance to cover, I had already paid out on blood tests, and other tests. I am now paraylsed thanks to this Insurance company. They didn’t fly us home I was left out in Lanzarote for one week untreated with my husband and two children. My bladder, bowel, right leg and bottom of my back have been left in horrific pain and paraylsed. Please avoid at all costs

I have read the reviews of this company. In their defence they are entirely consistent in their appalling treatment of customers.I have an Amex card and was under the impression that I had some level of protection. Like others who have contributed to this review, I have been asked at about weekly intervals for "further information". It is clearly a battle of attrition. If ever there was an industry that should be looked into by a parliamentary committee or by the ACCC, it is the travel insurance industry.

I have been using Ace for years & Years. This year I made a small Claim for my Spectacles that got damaged by getting dragged under a Sunbed. I realised there would be an Excess but that I would get something back on the replacement which cost €250. I sent off the Invoice & this is what I got back I should have read all the BAD Reviews before I gave them years & years of Business But what I can do is warn Unsuspecting Punters DONT USE ACE Your claim has been assessed in line with the terms and cond B. Exclusions (General Exclusions apply as well) i. ACE will not pay g) for loss, theft or damage to: vii) dentures, hearing aids, prescription glasses, sunglasses, prescription sunglasses contact or corneal lenses As such, in light of the above we regret to advise that Insurers are not in a position to be of financial assistance in this instance. We understand you may be disappointed with this outcome but we trust that our position has been clarified.

They refused to pay a 200.00 dentist bill. Was given the run around and delays just like everyone else on these reviews. Don't throw your money down the drain!!

I bought a travel insurance with them and every 3-4 weeks they ask for bits and pieces of information. After full details were submitted they still delay. 6 months after incident still not news from them. I think they are all out to find ways not to pay!!!

I am having the same experience right now. They sent me an email to say that they have received the claim, but then every 10 days or so they ask for bits and pieces of information. Now one month after I sent in the claim, they say that they have no claim documents. When I call the phone number listed on their website, it goes to an overseas call center with rude Filipino customer service officers, who informed me that their email turnaround is 7 to 10 business days. 7 to 10 business days is a ridiculously long time to answer a simple email! I think I'm going to have to go to Small claims court to get anything back.

My post trip hospitalization in government hospital claim was delayed to the point of denied. Argued with them, and they have many delay tactics wanting this and that documents, although I have scan/mail them everything. I still did not hear from them for few months now, I called them, they said still reviewing and they have many claims.

I took out a policy through the Citibank site in March for travel insurance from September for 18 days (I thought). Unfortunately upon looking at my certificate of insurance yesterday I notice the dates upon it are incorrect and only cover 1 week. Thinking there would be no problem and the matter would be simple to adjust the end date I contacted them, however after a 15 minute frustrating conversation it appears they want me to pay almost double again for them to extend the period. I went through Citibank thinking I was with a reputable company however this does not appear to be so. I wont ever use them again either.

My husband died suddenly on a shore excursion in Czech Republic whilst on a European cruise. I submitted my claim to ACE Insurance Travel Claims at the end of November, and it has taken 4 months of persistent emails and phone calls for them to refund most but not all of my claim. They apparently lost or mislaid one of my claims, and I have had to go to the Complaints and Disputes Section who were able to finalise the matter. Considering they were dealing with an elderly lady who had just lost her husband, I thought their delays and prevarication were unforgivable. I would never deal with ACE Insurance again, and I have told all my friends my long involved story.

Ace travel insurance claims dept is poor in managing claims. Contact will ask questions in drips (one additional question every few weeks), resulting in delay the resolution timing. Dept also insists on obtaiing a police report from the claimant, ignoring the fact that some countries' police do NOT release police reports to individuals, but ONLY to companies, when quoting police report number and case. I am sure ACE as an international company should be aware of this. Otherwise, why should ACE even be retailing (international, NOT domestic!) travel insurance.

Yep, it's a worthless dog of a free offering for those who persevere with the more expensive of the Amex card holder fringe 'benefits'. My wife and I had been deluded by the myth of this bonus travel insurance product from Ace and ventured overseas on occasion. With the reassurance of a gilt edged product backed by American Express Platinum card we felt invincible! Oh how we fell to earth hard with the grim realisation that we had travelled in a fools paradise and had been indeed been fortunate not to have actually come to grief some where like the US (where we would have lost all our worldly possessions in exchange for a five minute visit to a hospital emergency room!). Our reality check came in the form of an attempted claim for reimbursement for fares for a cancelled South Pacific cruise: we had paid a deposit of $200 on a previous cruise with our shipboard money (credit cards don't work at sea as those of you familiar with cruising will appreciate - debit cards set up prior to embarkation are standard fund sources). Anyhow after our return we paid the balance in full, over $3000, with our Amex Platinum card. Unfortunately my wife was diagnosed with breast cancer just prior to the cruise and operated on virtually immediately (with a good prognosis now). However she was advised not to embark on the cruise post operatively in case of complications - prudent advice under the circumstances. All required documentation was submitted to Ace Travel Insurance and so began our descent into a tedium of conflicting correspondences and responses. They play good cop/ bad cop where one operative's 'computer says no' then the next conversation is all about you submitting a fare breakdown so some invisible component like the carbon tax can be taken into account which will magically expedite your claim. It is of course just a ruse to break down your patience and resolve so you just give up and go away. As a previous critic in this forum has already expressed how can Ace's customer reps sleep at night? I'm sure it's a boiler room where bonuses are given out for the most effective stonewaller who knocks back the most claims in a month! I'm buying shares in Ace as they must be hugely profitable considering they would hardly honour any claims. As they say 'you get what you pay for' and when it's 'free' from Amex it ain't worth a cracker!

Hi, I am sorry to hear about your wife's condition. I totally agree with you, the free insurance from American Express does give American Express a bad reputation. ACE provides no customer service and very rarely pays claims. The emails and unreasonable requests came every 10 -14 days, as they state there is a 10 days service agreement with American Express. Most would think 10 days to pay a claim but 10 days for another ridiculous email. Then they just decline it anyway. I am an American Platinum Card holder and my husband was made redundant and we shortened our trip and cancelled half of the holiday. After 3 months of emails and screaming at ACE they paid 20% of my claim for the change of flights but not any of the cancellations made due to the change. I praise American Express for stepping in. American Express need to get a better insurance company.

The above reviews reflect my experience as well; I would not be so sure about buying shares in Ace however. I would not buy shares in companies that ....... .
Part of the problem may be that the claims to Ace are assessed in developing countries such as the Philippines. It is also likely in my opinion that employee renumeration is linked to the number of claims the employee knocks back
I was asked at regularly intervals for additional information on my medical condition that led to the cancellation of a trip. After one such request, I asked for a template of the information required. It turns out there is no template. This means that the level of information required is a function of who happens to process the claim.
I hope the others who have commented on Amex have canncelled their cards, as I have.

Travel insurance taken out in good faith but when time came to make a claim all they have done is fob us off and after 7 weeks the claim still has not been paid. They promise a finalization and then don't follow up. I would strongly recommend against insurance with this company. They are totally unprofessional and dishonest. AVOID AT ALL COSTS.

Would like to highlight that ACE Travel Insurance only cover damage to personal items due to "theft, robbery, burglary or threat of violence". They DO NOT cover accidental damage while many other insurers do. This is the most restrictive policy wording on this matter that I have encountered. Please be aware when choosing a travel insurance plan.

policy cancelled but continued to take money from my account for months, then put refund in a different account belonging to the ex because she use to be the policy holder although she had already cancelled it. They reckon its not their issue, they put it in the account they were told to, never checked with me as I had already advised them of the correct account. They have no trouble taking the money from one account, you think they would put it back in the same one. now I have lost it all. Care factor zero!!!

I made a claim for loss of money, and after offering police reports, witnesses, bank statement, receipts, phone records - they still say "I did not substantiate the loss" - absolute joke. I am now going through the complaints procedure which they say will take 8 weeks for them to provide a final response. (8 weeks is the absolute limit allowed by the financial ombudsman service, and I bet their final response comes the day of the deadline) I can't help feeling like they must decline everyone as part of their procedure then only pay out if it ends up going to the ombudsman!!! Go with a more reputable insurer unless you want a fight.

yes it will come on the deadline date I took a top policy out through Asda Travel undwritten by these idiots....I hurt my back on the plane going to lanzarote it turned into a medical emergency, I lost all control of my bladder. bowel, my leg was paralysed...I was crying very bad...Did Ace do anything nothing, I paid all the money we had at the hospital produced reports, saying I was in trouble....Ace thought I had a pre-existing, my back was hurting before my holiday...I only booked the holiday 12 hours before flying out...7 days I was left in agony caught my flight home under 2 operations to late. I have cauda Equina Syndrome, I had 48 hours for the surgery...The financial ombudsman sided with them because they paid the money back I used...not that I required surgery why do we take this Insurance....Thanks to Ace my bowel, bladder will never work again 35 years of age with young children....my leg is so bad with nerve damage, I cannot walk on it totally paralysed....They should be forced to stop trading I am after them....I don't know how the staff sleep at night....Any want any advice with Ace and there tricks let me know.
Written on: 15/11/2013
Yep taking there most expensive top option makes no dif with them. They only think about the way they can act to try and make the most profit and forget all about ethics, morals, service, etc.
Its very strange though because me taking them to the ombudsman costs them alot of money and you would think they would try and avoid that. Maybe lots of people give up hope and forget about it. I nearly did.
Written on: 18/11/2013
Yes you are so right, when the obudsman was looking into them for me, they hid the fact, there was a error in there fax machine and also they hid the telephone recording stating I required a scan. About 6 months after because I requested everything under the freedom of information Act. They admitted it in there, the case is back open, they get out of everything.....Part of my policy was a permanent Disability policy if I had a condition for 12 months from the holiday I could claim £40,000. They went all through my medical notes, found when my son fought for his life, I slept across 5 plastic chairs and my back was stiff, Like anyone wouldn't have a stiff back after that.there answer is no your back was always going to go, although I have not had one twinge since, I did pilates twice a week and 26 mile runs/walks. They sent a doctor to us who was retired only did work for Kennedy's (if anyone else has had a doctor through Ace please get in touch) They always find a pre-exisiting, I had a policy with Avon for permanent disability who paid out straight away the FOS are currently looking into the miss-selling of the policy, the non treating me. Also the Disability side, I fear they have used a clinical Solicitor who has decided to blind the FOS with Medical jargo. My doctors and consultants have both said I didn't have any pre-existing condition also this specialist it is unfair they can get away with it.......Ace have been kind enough to give me the 20 euro's I spent calling them, shame they left a perfect healthy career minded woman with 2 children 33 years of age with Cauda Equina Syndrome which could all of been avoided if they would of paid for me to get surgery and the scans I deserved......Anyone reading your health is too important to play around with these clowns, take your money and don't give a damn....The operators speak to you like you are bugging them asking for help!! oh I am going to the National paper about them waiting for holiday season, I will make sure I hit there pocket next year :)

Whilst visiting Florida we had to go to A&E as my husband suddenly developed a bleed from an artery in his leg. Being the USA the first thing they wanted was payment, before they even introduced you to a doctor!!! We had travel insurance through ACE insurance but as it was around 5am in the UK when we attended the hospital they could not ring the insurance company (yes we had our certificate with us but they would not accept this)so we paid on our credit card - around $800 - and claimed it back when we returned home. The claim was paid out after a few letters backwards and forwards and we thought that was the end of it until approximately 18 months later we received a letter from a debit recovery agency in the USA advising us we owed them the money for the hospital treatment???? We immediately rang ACE who said they would sort it out - that was over 18 months, and numerous letters, ago!!! We rang approximately 2 weeks ago to find out what is happening (again) as we are hoping to return to America next year (and don't want to end up getting arrested in the airport if there is some sort of warrant outstanding for non-payment!!) only to be told they have NO RECORD of this claim???? After almost 2 years and around 30 letters backwards and forwards between us, Ace, and the USA they now say they have "lost" the file??????? We have made a formal complaint now but are not holding our breath that this will EVER get resolved! Avoid this company at all costs, they do not have a clue what they are doing and should cease trading immediately!!

You are so right. I went out to Lanzaote took a top insurance policy out. I hurt my back on the flight, then has I was landing I had a massive bolt of pain go straight through to my toe, the pain brought me to tears....We paid all the money to get treated, they left me out there for 8 days...My condition was very serious, It was called cauda Equina Syndrome. I required surgery within 48 hours of going numb....My right leg is totally paralysed, my bowel and bladder will never work again, I was 33 years of age. I have young children disgusting how they left me. They have hid recordings which proved I required a scan, they do everything not to pay out....they have said I had a pre-existing condition DDD, Complete rubbish nothing in my medical notes to back it up....I am more than happy to come to the daily mail to name and shame this Company together....My complete is with the FOS I don't expect to much, they are hiding behind a solicitor ............Yes they should cease trading urgently they don't want to pay and avoid it at all costs, the turn over of staff of crazy, I brought my Insurance through Asda Travel, I have complained to Asda, they don't care, they keep backing a company that doesn't care about there people, everyone should avoid Asda too

Ace trying to play delay tactics. Sent them my air tickets, receipt and my mother's death certificate. They still ask for doctor's diagnose. Wonder if they wanted a spiritual form!!! Very very very bad ethics insurance company! !!!

how terrible, but I totally understand. I am blocked with a solicitor...they need naming and shaming. I am 35, went on holiday very fit and healthy through Ace they have left me paralysed through not paying for me to have surgery, they have lost recording the lot...They need avoiding at all costs

Think twice if your going to rely on free travel insurance with AMEX card, was injured overseas & needed to get back early as my trip simply could not continue, delay tactics & lies is all that took place from ace insurance, was never returned home early & spent the majority of my trip in my hotel room, you find out why the insurance is free when you need to make a claim, for peace of my mind spend the money & take out travel insurance with a reputable company, holiday ruined, left out of pocket, ace insurance are an absolute disgrace.

I went though the same I know how you feel, I had top insurance through Asda Travel underwritten by Asda.....They neglected me too, they was reading from a script very bad company...I am 35 paralised thanks to Ace I required surgery within 48 hours of going numb, I was left totally in the hands of Ace big mistake if you think anything of your health avoid Ace. My condition is called Cauda Equina Syndrome .....We should all get together and go National about this Company and ruin them

They deserve a ZERO. They are have no shame and no conscience. Totally dishonest. ACE reps for Europe have refused to cover 5 hours of our existing flight delay based on "absence of a written paper proof on the delay that was to be issued by Blue Air". They only had the electronic proof as an email sent to me by the company -- announcing the delay!! Blue Air in itself is a low cost company that deserves a ZERO as a rating and a partner of the same caliber. This is their response. We are (all 3 of us) insured against delays during this flight, we paid additional/optional insurance!! Do not trust this dishonest company! This is what they wrote me after they got all the docs via e-mail: We hereby acknowledge receipt of your claim for reimbursement and regret to inform you that, having reviewed the General Terms and Conditions which you yourself explicitly accepted at the time of purchase, we regret to inform you that we are unable to accept your claim for the following reason: The policy subscribed does not cover the payment of this type of claim. According to you e-mail you don't have original invoices or receipts of the actual and necessary expenses incurred in the place of the delay, during the hours of delay. The policy states: The following is excluded from the coverage established under this Policy: A) Any cause that cannot be demonstrated by presenting documents that certify the reason for the cancellation. We wish to take this opportunity to thank you for the trust placed in our company and would be happy to provide any clarification regarding the aforementioned, should this be required.

This is completely true. We are suffering from the expense of ACE's ability to cut costs!
