“Not Halal! Poor service and overpriced.”

★☆☆☆☆

written by thekhan2 on 01/02/2012

I recall going past Thali restaurant a few months before my visit and then was approached by one of the waiters outside. He was trying get people into the restaurant. I asked if the food was Halal (blessed meat for muslims) and he claimed it was. And so, I went with work colleagues to eat Indian food at Thali. The waiters seemed they were bored. I asked to double check if it was Halal, and they claimed it was. Well, I asked him to provide certificates and could not. I stuck with vegetarian dishes whilst my friends ate a wide variety of dishes. We finished and felt short changed for sure. The quality of service was not great. The food seemed well overpriced. You could go to many other indian restaurants in Woking and the food tastes great. After we left, we saw one of the chefs behind Thali restaurant and asked him if it was Halal? Chef said no! I felt so cheesed off with the waiter. The waiter is a liar!

This restaurant is slightly different to a traditional Indian restaurant. Their website gives a fair impression of the place.

They are particularly good at using powerfull and effective tasting sauces. This is the best restaurant in central Woking for cooking vegetarian dishes. Try their vegetarian koftas in particular. The meat and fish dishes are also very well flavoured.

The service is relaxed and not too formal which puts one at ease. The staff cope well regardless of how busy it gets. The place is busiest evenings Thursday to Saturday. Early in the week is quietest. Lunchtimes are fairly quiet. The lunchtime menu deal is terrific value. They also do the main menu at lunchtimes for the particularly peckish.

I highly recommend this restaurant, as the menu and quality of food is fantastic. It is not a big restaurant, so the tables are a little squashed in, but for a group, order a booth, which has plenty of space and privacy.

This Restaurant is not your typical Indian Takeaway. The menu is very much based on traditional Indian food that you would find being cooked in most homes in India. They do serve chicken tikka & onion bhajis but with a traditional twist! And they definately do not serve typical English versions of Indian food like a Vindaloo!

The Thali Thali Indian restaurant in Woking offers some really interesting food; not your usual standard curry fayre. We've eaten there a few times, and we have always been impressed with the meals.

Service does vary, and we've had both brilliant and thoroughly average experiences, so it can be a little bit of luck of the draw I'm afraid.

“We had our office Christmas party at Thali Thali...”

★★☆☆☆

written by ForeignFoodLover on 03/01/2006

We had our office Christmas party at Thali Thali restaurant in 2005. We were all impressed by the quality of the food, and we did not need to wait long for it.

However, we experienced very poor customer service from the manager there. In our experience, he had an awful attitude problem, and relentlessly accused a member of our group of lying to him (refusing to acknowledge that our group member had called to cancel a space the previous evening, when they had). We were appalled as he was the manager, and in charge. However, he did not insist on charging us for the absent person's food.
