“Biscuits OK, Packaging Is Terrible”

★★☆☆☆

written by bnCrouch206 on 08/01/2022

I purchased a packet of Mc Vities Digestives last week. Noticed the different 'loose' packaging but thought nothing of it. Opened the biscuits a couple of days later.., every single one was soft although I could see no sign of damage to the packet itself. I did check. Yesterday I went to a big superstore, bought a double pack of McVities Digestives. I hoped the 2nd layer of packaging would protect the biscuits. I placed them straight in my shopping trolley, they suffered no knocks. When I was back home, I found the outer packaging was whole. I could feel a slighty crumblyness to the top of one of the packets. I took the packet out, it was split at the seam in the middle. There were a lot more broken biscuits than I expected. I decided to put the biscuits in an airtight storage container to keep them crisp. As I did this, I found over half of the biscuits were broken, many of them were just crumbs. The loose packaging hadn't shown this when I just felt the package. The biscuits that were in bits big enough to eat were crisp though (at the time of opening). But I won't be buying them again. The durability of the new looser packaging both for single and double packets of McVities digestives has not been researched well. I never ever had lots of broken biscuits in the old smooth close fitting packaging, if any of them were broken or crumbled, you could easily tell. This needs to change. £2 completely wasted.

“Cheap grainy and not an improvement”

★★☆☆☆

written by 384Sheehan on 21/11/2021

I thought they had mixed up their recipe with a cheap brand as that is how they taste now. I don't notice the sugar drop but the texture is all wrong. they are hard and grainy. Gone is the smooth biscuit that I could use not just with a cuppa but with savoury cheese snacks In fact these are no better that the cheap supermarket ones so I would be better saving my money and buying those if I want a digestive!!!!

“high fiber”

This high fiber digestive biscuit is the best choice for a breakfast with chai. It tastes delicious.

“Wrong,wrong,wrong”

★★☆☆☆

written by Upsetfromdeal on 15/11/2020

Hate the change in recipe, has a strange “tang” when you eat them. Will finish eating( reluctantly) current stock then stop buying McVities. Shame as I have bought them for years

“UNHEALTHY CALORIES”

★★☆☆☆

written by FrancescaMatthews on 30/10/2020

A digestive biscuit typically consists of a minimum of 50 calories. These are not healthy calories which will accelerate your weight loss. Rather these are calories that will hamper your weight loss and you wouldn't even know why!

“Disappointing digestives”

★★☆☆☆

written by Reidfp403 on 21/10/2020

I've been buying McVities Digestives for years but I'm afraid my latest packet went straight in the recycling. Dusty and soft and tasteless. I'll be changing brand.

I have noticed a change as well. The biscuits don't absorb the tea like before, and the centre remains crunchy and gritty after being dunked. They have lost the sweetness, and the colour and smell are off. Very disappointing after buying these for years. We have gone to a different brand now, but not as good as the original.

“A Total Disaster for McVities”

★★☆☆☆

written by khanpi on 09/02/2020

The new formula for digestive biscuits has left them tasting claggy and absolutely awful. On the packaging Mcvities say "The Original". This could not be further from the truth as they taste nothing like the original biscuits. If they need to cater for demand from "healthy eaters" then produce a lower fat version for them and leave our food choices to us! I am quite capable of limiting my intake to one or two biscuits with my cup of tea, and the new formula has forced me to quit! Good for my health I suppose, but a big loss for McVities as everyone I know agrees and seeing other reviews on here it is borne out that the new formula is rubbish. McVities would do well to listen.

“Powdery and very little taste”

★★☆☆☆

written by bazookajoe999 on 10/07/2018

After many years of enjoying a digestive having tried other brands I have always come back to McVities. Sad to say within the last couple of months the recipe must have been changed. They are now very powdery, hardly any real taste, break far to easily. When opening a new packet at least 6 are usually broken or crumbling. They used to be my biscuit of choice I am now looking for alternatives.

“Horrible biscuits!”

★★☆☆☆

written by on 18/11/2017

These biscuits are a huge dissapointment. They leave an aftertaste, taste bitter but bland. They do not taste like an original mcvities digestive at all, more like a cheap, cheap copy.McVities need to respond to all these poor reviews and comments.

McVities were taken over by a Turkish company, probably redefined the biscuit to suit the Turkish palate, who knows..? If it's to do with costs, why not just increase the price..? If for health reasons, who cares, just bring back the original biscuit we have enjoyed for many decades....

“Tasteless ”

★★☆☆☆

written by Disappointedval on 02/07/2017

McVities Digestives used to be my favourites. They are now tasteless. I used to love them with cheese or on their own with a cup of tea, but no more. I am looking for a better digestive, now.

“What happened??”

★★☆☆☆

written by Moody312 on 11/05/2017

I live in Mexico and managed to get my hands on a packet of these recently. I could not wait to get stuck in to my all-time favourite biscuit after so many years! What a huge disappointment! I read that many companies in the UK have been changing recipes over the last few years (less salt here, less fat there, whatever) but I had no idea how bad things had gotten. Biscuits are a treat to be enjoyed and savoured, not a health food. They now taste like cardboard with a very saw-dusty texture in the mouth ... just all wrong. If anyone has access to a brand called Gullon from Spain give them a try. Their digestives are, in my opinion, far superior to the Mcvities. Now off to make a cheesecake with them or something ...

“What's happened to our favourite biscuit?”

★★☆☆☆

written by Webboswife on 20/03/2017

These digestives have always been tops with our family. My husband will eat virtually any biscuit and loves his digestives. He recently commented that they were very saw dusty. We thought it was maybe a duff batch and bought more.To our disappointment they too were dry,not very sweet, much thinner and quite burnt looking. Is this just another case of cutting back and making the customer pay for poor quality products?may as well buy a much cheaper brand for a better quality biscuit.Shame on you McVities.

“Not what they used to be !”

★★☆☆☆

written by IsaacBowman145 on 07/01/2016

Since they changed the recipe McVities have struggled with quality. To me it seems they have to under bake them so they do not get the biscuits too brittle. They have lost their toasted flavour, taste of undercooked flour and look horrible and pale. A great British biscuit ruined by food technologists!!!

“Fabric of society crumbled”

★★☆☆☆

written by Whitemill on 21/04/2015

Sorry, but McVities digestives are no longer the tasty, buttery, flavoursome and crumbly biscuits they once were. As hard as I try to convince myself they are still the best biscuit, sadly I have to resign myself to the facts, they have lost the crown and they now lie amongst the also-rans. They tasteless and for what it is worth Mcvities, I will not be buying them until you go back to how they once were.

“Not much flavor”

★★☆☆☆

written by Isisx176 on 19/04/2015

I recently tried a box of McVities Digestives for the first time. I've been buying Burton's Digestives for some time now and the Mcvities didn't come close to being as good. They were bland and had considerably less flavor, and the texture wasn't as nice. Just to be certain I then did a side-by side comparison by dunking both varieties in the same cup of tea, and there was no question that the Burton's were much better.

“wrecked a fine morning ritual”

★★☆☆☆

written by on 24/08/2013

Have always enjoyed McVities D B's (plain!) in the mornings and then a change happened. They were often broken or crumbled in the packet. They still tasted right so assumed that this happened as result of bad transport (from UK to Canada) and continued to purchase and salvage pieces. THen they were packaged in a box but that didn't stop the breakage. A few months ago I couldn't find them at all except in hard-to-get-to English specialty stores and lately reappeared, smaller and though not broken, less biscuity without the buttery wheaty taste. Now more crackery and not a satisfying change in taste and texture. NOT HAPPY!!!! McVities, I'm hoping you're doing a rethink and really going back to "original recipe". It says that on the package but it ain't.
