“Platinum cover does not over everything ”

★☆☆☆☆

written by glWright403 on 29/01/2017

Platinum cover does not cover flushing of system as we found out to our cost. So basically for them to say it does is a down right lie. Tip: buy a boiler with a ten year warranty, then you don't have to worry about insurance.

I had platinum cover for my central heating system. Had a leak for days and they sent an engineer from Baxi who said he was told not to sort it out and he left. Thought I was paying for platinum cover to manage heating piping leaks. Do NOT waste your money. Meanwhile water draining through floorboards to hallway below. The 'resolutions ' team are impotent they are useless. Am now trying to get a private plumber to sort it and I will bill d and g. Spent 10 hours on phone today....

“Water through ceiling after bodged repair”

★☆☆☆☆

written by Frida191 on 07/07/2016

They use a company called GasPlus in East Sussex. Avoid! The bare facts are that after the the leak was reaired it was worse and the ceiling was damaged. Neither D&G or GasPlus will admit liabilty and pay for repair. Terribe service.

“obstructive and hopeless”

★☆☆☆☆

written by landlordellis on 13/11/2015

I have insurance policies to cover boiler service at five rented flats in central London. The service offered by D&G and the Gas Service companies just about acceptable until something goes wrong. At that point you become trapped in unanswered phone calls (or 30 mins for an answer) and circular arguments as to why they cannot provide the assistance needed. If pursued with sufficient determination it is possible to get some sort of acknowledgement that there is an issue that they should deal with but getting the action is almost impossible. The policy that the staff have to follow is designed to delay and obstruct, it is not designed to assist the customer. Instead of making life easier and more pleasant for my tenants and myself, D&G have made it worse. I have now cancelled all policies and could not recommend them to anyone. PLEASE AVOID.

“No telephone contact ”

★☆☆☆☆

written by on 26/08/2015

I have been trying to contact Domestic and General on the numbers they provide on their boiler/Heating policy documents for days, totally without success. The numbers they give both are permanently engaged. I have only been able to get through to the repair centre and customer care department by ringing their head office number and being put through. the lady I spoke to in the Customer Care team was very professional and she said she would come back to me but the telephone numbers are still permanently engaged. I will not be renewing my policy.

“Don't bother”

★☆☆☆☆

written by Rayjc1005 on 31/05/2015

We had been with Domestic and General for many years and they provided a decent service. Unfortunately when the boiler had a fire and had to be written off they have wriggled out of paying a fair price to replace. The boiler replacement not inc installation is £1000 they offered £270 and would not budge. We are leaving D&G for all over service plans and going to a cheaper provider. Don't pay their high plan cost shop around for a better provider.

“Really great service”

★★★★★

written by on 30/01/2015

Our heating stopped working and we did not know whether it was the boiler itself or the controls. In very cold weather! Rang Domestic and General and set up a new plan to include a repair and cover going forward. An engineer was booked in for the next day who arrived promptly. He diagnosed the problem which required a part to be ordered and he was back less than 48 hours later and fixed the problem and the heating is now working again. I have personally been very impressed with the service I received and particularly impressed with the fact I am now able to spread the cost of both the repair and on going cover into affordable monthly instalments. I have an idea of what the cost of the part and this repair would have been had I called out an independent trader and it would have been quite a large bill! I am surprised at the negative reviews left for Domestic and General as my experience has been entirely positive.

“After 4 visits of incompetent engineers sent out by...”

★☆☆☆☆

written by AnayaBroussard on 22/10/2014

After 4 visits of incompetent engineers sent out by Domestic & General, where they damaged my boiler more than the original problem I finally got them to agree a pay and claim. I called a number of times to get authorisation from senior complaints managers prior to agreeing to have my own engineer carry out the work. In good faith I paid the engineer the amount I was authorised to spend, I sent in my invoice with a covering letter and 'authorisation code'. Tonight I got a letter from them saying they will pay part of my claim. I have lost 4 days annual leave waiting in for their incompetent and rude engineers, spent hours on the phone to then, paid to get my own boiler fixed, paid the monthly fee every month for 18 months to domestic and general and they have in effect stolen hundreds of pounds from me, by breaking our contract,i.e. they promised to repair my boiler and failed, they promised to pay me back if I paid for my own repair and have refused to pay the full amount. It feels as if they are using the guise of a large corporate (trusted?!?) organisation to get business. Save your money, do not take a boiler cover policy with them. I'm beyond disgusted with their behaviour!

“appaling firm.”

written by beano1964 on 26/10/2013

replacement boiler for old back boiler. within minutes of this firms so called gas engineers entering my house i knew i made a mistake giving them the job - seemed totally clueless!asking me"where to install" pipes etc; when they are they ones who are supposed to be qualified? radiator sludge was splashed up walls, carpets, left old pipes in walls, damaged marble hearth removing old boiler, ripped holes in ceilings by being careless, poorly re-fitted landing carpet, did not fit combi shower as part of the deal. then to top it all off they broke the new boiler and so left with no hot water for five days.bosch came to fix it and even they were discusted with their work and reported them to head office.communication was virtually nil for weeks, until they wanted their money, then when payed most of it as they promised to sort it all out and come back to fit the shower - nowt- haven't heard off them since (7 weeks ago). anyone out there - do not even think about having this firm to do "any" job in your house , stay clear!!!

“Don't trust them”

★☆☆☆☆

written by on 16/09/2013

On to my third breakdown of the central heating system they installed two years ago. Each time you phone / email to complain you get zero response. Promised call backs don't happen. On the first breakdown (downstairs radiators wouldn't heat if the hot water was on), I was called a liar down the phone. Currently trying to get them to repair what looks like an electrical problem. Was told I'd get a call at 6pm last Wednesday - still waiting. Called them this morning and they denied all knowledge of me. My friend is an electrician and he can't believe they've wired the central heating into an existing feed to the immersion heater. If this complaint goes the usual way, it will come down to me threatening legal action before they take any notice. Do not under any circumastances use this company - you will severely regret it

“Total rip off”

★☆☆☆☆

written by Worstcoever on 20/02/2013

Have just cancelled my protection with this company having paid monthly for nine years. Boiler stopped working so engineer called round and said it was due to silt etc in the system which was not covered. We paid to have our system flushed through independently and no silt etc was found, in fact was told we had an exceedingly clean system. The independent engineer then had a look at our boiler and within less than a minute told us we needed a new thermostat which he duly fitted. Sent a copy of our report to D&G requesting recompense as it was not due to silt, they didn't want to know. Feel completely ripped off after paying for years and first sign of trouble they blame it on something else. Would not reccomend this company to anybody.

“Boiler insurance plan”

★☆☆☆☆

written by on 05/02/2013

Hi all do not insure your boiler from domestic and general as there engineers do not have a clue what they are doing. I have a breakdown and status heating was sent out. Status heating engineers ordered a part which arrived a week later. After putting this part in it still did not work and ordered another part which again took another week to get hold of . These parts are readIly available in local plum bases as I rang around and also told status and domestic and general. It's been over two and half weeks and still no heating or hot water. So never use status heating as they don't know what there doing.

“terrible service”

★☆☆☆☆

written by on 29/09/2012

This is actually about central heating but i think its still relevent to the service they give. Terrible service. Domestic and Gerneral came to fit our central heating system at a good price, however we 'paid the price'. They left the job half done, the electrics cables were in a mess over the walls which they had drilled many unnessesary holes into, they segwayed the outpipe into the wrong drain, they had not fitted the gas pipes, the boiler has since leaked and was only fitted a year ago. To finish the job- we waited in/ left work early and waited in for hours four or five times with no one turning up before someone actually turned up to an agreed arrangement. It took phoning them everyday for over a week and threatening them with trading standards for them to eventually come to finish the job and sort out the mess they had made. We are now due for the 'yearly service' we have been promised and, yet again we have phoned contimually for an appointment. They have, yet again stood us up on the agreed appointment.

“Domestic and General Boiler Plan”

★☆☆☆☆

written by on 23/02/2012

Have paid into the plan for two years and have just cancelled my cover as I am disgusted by the service. I rang DOMGEN at the end of January to say my boiler was leaking and the heating had broken down. At the time we were in the middle of "the big freeze" and I had no heat or hot water. Engineer came two hrs after he said he would and said he didn't have the part for the boiler. He would need to order it, but all places were shut. I asked him to ring when it was in. He agreed. Five days after the visit I rang to check on progress as he had failed to ring as promised. I was told the part was not in the country. I have an ideal boiler and live five minutes away from where they are manuafactured!! Finally a week later after a second weekend of no heat and hot water, he arrived with the part. Fitted the part - or so we thought. He walks in looks at me and says "I ordered the wrong part, I need to order another." So he disappears into the sunset and we continue to freeze! Valentines day my partner arrives with a romantic meal, roses the lot and the plumber arrives two mins later with the right part. He stays until gone 9pm to then come in and say. Er, its not fixed - I have replaced the pump but no it still isn't working. He admits he doesn't know what is wrong with it and agrees to ring ideal and get back to me in 48 hrs. He did do, he said he still didn't know what was wrong. It can't be a blockage. He tinkers a bit and praise be, he finds the problem. The heat exchanger is bust. Great I think - two weeks of freezing and finally the boiler will be fixed. One problem. Domgen refuse to cover me, accusing me of not having my boiler serviced. I told them I had proof I had if they wanted it and they were adament that if it wasn't on their computer then I haven't had it done. I ask them to give me the money towards a boiler then, I am told no as it is my fault for not having the boiler serviced. I argued again but was met with arrogance. So basically three weeks on, still have no heat or hot water and am paying £1500 next week for a new boiler which I cannot afford. I did argue that their engineer didn't find the problem for two and a half weeks and surely I should be compensated but again I was told it was my fault. Terrible service - I have cancelled the policy.

written by on 19/02/2011

My installation has been excellent and the workmanship has been great. They did come earlier than planned but this was fine. I was initially put off from using then by one off there competitors but realised this was lies. I also got confused looking at reviews for Domestic And General Insurance a different company who do boiler servicing. So after considering my oprions I dicided to use them and am very please with their work. I would recommend them to my friends and family anyday.

“Appalling company using even more appalling engineers....”

★☆☆☆☆

written by on 31/01/2011

Appalling company using even more appalling engineers. Was without a washing machine for a month waiting for their engineers to source the parts. First engineer didn't replace the hosepipes back properly and this flooded my kitchen overnight thus warping the kitchen base units. When final engineer came out, he said he couldn't put the washer back because it didn't fit properly and left it in the middle of the kitchen floor. I had already expressed my disgust at having to use this company to Domestic and General and was told if I wanted my washer mended, I had no option. Domestic and General staff were arogant on the phone and the engineers totally disinterested.

I totally second wishy washy's review on here word for word, I have had the exact same experience twice now, this time I have bitten the bullet and bought a new machine. Engineer turns up one week after call, never has the part on the van despite being advised in advance and then disappear's for another 2 weeks, seems to be the norm Rubbish service, don't waste your money on them.

Don't use them please. They fitted a boiler at my place, left a water pipe that sprung a leak and dripped through to the downstairs flat. Two weeks later and they still have not come round to fix it. Outrageous...take your business elsewhere. GGGrrrrr.

Is it legal for an engineer to come and fix 'the ignition switch' on your insured boiler then leave you with no central heating or hot water without first warning you? I had both before hand even though it wouldn't always ignite on 1st attempt,it still worked. On the 1st day the engineer said "I'll have to come bk tom and flush the system." On day 2, after being here for 3 hrs, he then said i'd have to pay £500 - £600 to flush the system, then off he went, leaving me with nothing. The last 2 call outs have been costly to me i.e. time off work waiting and 'engineers that don't know what they're doing!?
