“Material fails quickly”

★☆☆☆☆

written by TexasHorseman on 08/12/2011

We own 6 of these blankets, and loved the initial quality. As each of our other manufacturers blankets failed over time, we would replaced them with these blankets. We now own 6 of these bought over a 3 year period. We had a strap shear last year and presumed it must have got hung up in a fence or tree limb, it was sheared clean across, almost like a scissor cut. This year four more straps on 3 blankets sheared in the same way. We took all the blankets to a repair center that specializes in horse blanket repairs. They said they had seen a number of this make of blanket exhibit the same problem from all over. They also drew our attention to the hem of the blankets which were also all fraying! The so called 3 year warranty is worthless, it is solely a "waterproof and breathable guarantee". We are switching our allegiance away from this brand, it has let us down and left us with a hefty replacement bill.

How is your Wug holding up? We have 6 and 4 failed so far. The material disintegrates. Ours were bough in the US, and probably manufactured in a different place than the Ireland ones.

“I recently purchased the Rambo wug and was convinced...”

★☆☆☆☆

written by pinkhoneybee on 04/10/2009

I recently purchased the Rambo wug and was convinced at the time of purchase that it was worth the extortionate price tag. However, upon receipt of the rug i was terribly dissappointed. Firstly, the surcingle straps were dangerously long (even when adjusted to the shortest possible length) The second thing was the amount of spare/excess material on top - the rug didn't lie flat which in my view meant that it would be far more likley to snag on brambles/branches. The third most disappointing thing to mention was the way the neck lay half way up the mane - everytime my horse lifted it's head it put a substanial amount of pressure on her neck and rubbed her mane terribly. The fourth thing i hated about this rug was it's length it's far too long. I have a 15.2hh horse and bought a 6'3 in this rug but it came down to her knees - massively restricting her movement. I used the rug once and have never used it since as when i went to get her in the morning she was wearing it like a scarf this was largely due to the surcingles being far too long but also because it doesn't have leg straps to help keep it in place. The rug is also very heavy in comparison to other lightweights. The only good thing i have to say about this rug is it's craftmanship - it is very well made just a shame that the design and style is so flawed.

Sorry horseware - perhaps stick to more conventional rug designs and stop trying to patent everything!

“I had to replace my 10 year old Rambo Turnout Rug, and...”

I had to replace my 10 year old Rambo Turnout Rug, and went for the full neck wug. There is a cheaper version made in China, which has a lighter outer layer but the same filling. The rug seemed lighter and the filling thinner, and it was definitely less warm on my horse. The supplier agreed with me and contacted Horseware, who allowed me to exchange it for the same rug made in Ireland. It is slightly heavier but is much warmer.
A friend has the Rambo full neck stable rug made in China and has the same problem. Also her horse ripped the rug in just 4 days, and he is not heavy on his rugs.
Has anyone else tried the Chinese versions of Horseware and if so, have they found the same problem? I have always had Horseware rugs and have been really impressed by them.

How can I tell if my wug is made in China? Ive been really dissapointed with it too. The lining has ripped where it is sewn at the front fastennings and seems really thin in comparison to my friends. Its been back to Horseware once for previous lining rip and they said it wasnt a manufacturers fault and Ive now written to them but havent had a reply. Its only been used for about 12 weeks over this and the back end of last winter.

Thanks for replying. I paid the usual price so I presume it is an Ireland one. The outer is as good as my friends, its the lining on mine that is definitely thinner. It was returned by the retailer last time but Horseware said it wasn't a fault and suprise suprise I still haven't had a reply or acknowledgement to my letter about the second tear. Looks like I'm stuck with it.
Thanks again.

Connel's Response to connel's Review

Written on: 04/01/2006

The on-line company I brought it from orginally told me of the differences and the difference in price (about £40!!). They assured me Horseware told them that the rugs were the same in all respects except in the outer layer.
When I complained (and later my friend did), it was the company who took it up with Horseware. I think you will have to ask whoever you brought it from or go by the price. Sorry I didn't reply earlier, good luck in getting a replacement.
