At a dinner party at my friend's recently, I tried for the very first time Captain Morgan's Spiced Rum. I'm not much of a drinker, and hardly touch spirits - but I have to say I was very impressed with this product. In terms of the flavour, it is much more mellow than any other rum I have ever tried. To me, this actually has a flavour, rather than just tasting like neat alcohol. The spices are very noticeable and really make this product unique. I have since bought a small bottle of this rum which I served when I had people over. We enjoyed it with lemonade and pineapple juice - but I'm sure there are plenty of other flavour combinations you can try. At £12 for a small bottle, this is technically a premium product - but for me it still represents good value for the quality and the amount of servings we got from it. I gave this four stars rather than five because even though its the mellowest I've found, its still a little strong for me. That being said, this is the only spirit I have tried that I like and will definitely buy it again for special occasions.

I have to say I was pretty disappointed by Captain Morgans Spiced Rum. I like dark rum, and hoped this would have that taste combined with some edgy spices - maybe ginger or even chilli. I mean, it ought to have a bit of bite - the sort of thing that pirates or Caribbean gun-runners would drink!

In fact, it tastes NOTHING like rum - it's just a rather bland, smooth, and - let's be honest - girly drink. Expensive? Well I paid 12 quid in Morrisons.

So, yeah, it's OK as far as it goes, but I won't be buying any more.
