“Terrific flavor...try it!”

★★★★★

written by keithwms on 31/12/2014

My first taste of Amarula was during a long plane ride down to South Africa. I asked the flight attendant to spike my boring coffee with Bailey's... and I was lucky that she only had Amarula! Terrific stuff. The bloke next to me and his wife followed my lead, and we all savored our decadent Amarula coffees together! I have been a Bailey's fan for quite a while, but Amarula is different. Whether you prefer it will probably be an individual thing, but what I like is the subtle fruitiness. You'll appreciate that more if you purchase some marula jam and get to know that subtle flavor. I am also impressed that the Amarula company supports wildlife conservation. Not sure what Bailey's supports but...I like my elephants healthy and protected :) So, bravo Amarula!

“Best Cream Liqueur around”

It has a taste somewhere between Baileys and Dijourno but is way better. Its slightly fruity but complex texture makes it unique and so good its best in coffee on straight on the rocks!!!

“it is overated”

★★★☆☆

written by Pearsonrc1991 on 25/03/2014

Its not value for money. Yes it tastes good but do a practical test yourself like i did. I bought it secretly and asks my wife what she thought of the new "cheap cream whisky" i'd bought and after tasting it she thought it was as lighter than a baileys we'd had over the weekend at a friends place....... And that was my exact thought. Price to quality ratio your better off with Baileys, but the best cream liqueur price to quality ratio is Carolans, delivers the same thickness with a creamy smooth choc honey taste. My problem with Amarula is how thin it is, too diluted.

What can I say? Since my first bottle (bought as a birthday gift for me over 5 years ago), it is the ONLY LIQUER THAT I DRINK! I'm addicted to it. You can no longer purchase it in Pennsylvania, so my friends in Delaware, Maryland, and New Jersey purchase it for me, and BRING it to me.

Amarula Fruit Cream has a very interesting flavor - almost like caramel, but not quite.
A while back, a show on T.V. featured a story on African elephants getting drunk by eating Amarula fruit. Saw a bottle of Amarula Fruit Cream on a RCCL cruise to the Carribean & was able to taste several different specialty creams. Well, I tried this one just once - the wandered back about 6 more times - when I got home I bought a bottle, then another. Keep this a secret as the more popular it gets, the fewer bottles will be on the shelf for those of us in the know!

Amarula is a bit like Pringles, once you start, you cant stop!
I am not a big drinker and was very shocked that the night I opened the bottle - I also finished it. It's absolutely gorgeous!

Best poured over ice and leave to stand for a few mins to chill, then enjoy the mellow creamy drink.... GOSH, talking about it, makes me want a drink right now.

ENJOY!

Amarula is really good. It does have a bit of a bite to it, so I just drink a small glass usually. I bought it wanting to try something like Bailey's cream but with a little less alcohol taste. I was happy with my selection of Amarula.

“My husband bought Amarula Fruit Cream as a surprise,...”

★★★★★

written by gdastrup on 08/05/2005

My husband bought Amarula Fruit Cream as a surprise, and since neither one of us are big drinkers, it was definitely a surprise! He was only looking at it because of the price ($11.00, marked down from $25.00). It's great! The flavour is a lot like Baileys, only a bit smoother and easier to drink. The only negative thing would be, the price was marked down because it is a close-out item, and it won't be sold anymore at our local liquor store.

“When I stumbled across a bottle of Amarula Fruit...”

★★★★☆

written by Saurkraut on 26/04/2005

When I stumbled across a bottle of Amarula Fruit Cream in the store, it was in a small section along with other specialty drink mixes. At first, I paid no attention to it. However, when looking over various mudslide and margarita mixes, I was drawn to the bottle again.

What interested me is the label, which reads "This natural fruit cream is produced from fresh cream and the unique fruit of the Marula tree." Now, I always enjoy trying new and exotic things, especially fruit. And who can deny that cream is good in ANYthing?

I did some more research recently, and found some interesting articles on the Marula fruit tree. In fact, once the fruit has dropped and ferments on the ground, elephants have been known to eat that fruit and get completely plastered. The Marula fruit was, at one time, a main food source for some African tribes.

In my area (the Tampa Bay area, FL), a bottle goes for about $20. Being as it wasn't prohibitively expensive, I decided to try it.

The drink closely resembles the flavors of a White Russian or possibly a bit like a Mudslide, to be completely frank. It's a little too strong for my taste, but overall it's pleasant. This is a drink that only the brave gulp down, and the rest of us sip slowly. I've heard it said that it has a slight vanilla/chocolatey flavor and I'd say that's a fair assessment.

I believe it's worth a try, just to say you've tried something unique. And, who knows, if you're a fan of White Russians, this may replace your favorite drink!

written by spook on 15/12/2003

Amarula is, essentially, a fruity Bailey's which sounds rather nasty but is actually extremely lovely. It has a sweet, creamy fruit taste and goes down easily either chilled or room temperature as a wonderful dessert/after dinner drink. If you're into sweet creamy liqueurs this is definitely for you!
