The Railway, Hope Under Dinmore

New owners there now, had a snack there cple weeks back very nice.Went Sat,4 of us.Had potatoe skins and Thia fish cakes for starters. Really nice.Two of us had steaks, best steak I have had for a long time.My wife had pork, my son had lamb.Every thing was very nicely cooked, and presented very well.We just about managed some sweet for after, all very nice.Would definitely go back there again. The landlord was very nice and helpful, so was the waitress, excellent service!

We went for Sunday lunch today. The choice on the menu was different to what you might expect and a refreshing change. I had the chefs fish stew and it was delicious. My husband had traditional roast beef, the veg selection was lovely with leeks in a cheese sauce, red cabbage with nuts and carrot and sweet potato mash. Extra gravy came to the table automatically. Deserts were also fabulous. The staff were unobtrusive but friendly. Do go and give these new proprietors a try it will be well worth it.

After a long walk we arrived to see the sign CLOSED MONDAYS AND TUESDAYS - It was Tuesday.

It's a pity the website gives the Monday to Saturday menu !!!!

We would recommend The Railway to anyone who wanted to have a throughly relaxing meal in a setting that is comfortable, clean very well presented. The staff are great and we always feel very welcome.

When we first arrived The Railway looks a smart pub/restaurant with a lovely log fire. The menu was nicely presented with a choice of Steaks on the Grill Menu. However the service was dreadful. The soup we ordered was salty and the steaks were overcooked. Our coffee at the end was cold. It was not a cheap evening and I do not think that we would go back. Top prices for very unsatisfactory evening.

Excellent local produce expertly prepared by chef proprietor. Highly recommend. Super service and friendly atmosphere. This is my favourite food destination in the area (I have sampled most).

I have been to the other 'good food' pubs in the area and The Railway stands out as the best by far. I'm guessing that the previous reviewer had a bad time and I would strongly suggest a return trip.

The menu is an eclectic mix of tantalising dishes all cooked to order using the finest locally sourced ingredients (the steaks are amazing) - I'm reliably informed that they come from a butcher in Bromyard.

Beautifully kept Wye Valley beers and a fab winelist - We go most Fridays and Sundays - we're already booked for New Year! I cannot praise it highly enough.

We were out to enjoy a quiet family meal (The Railway restaurant had been recommended by two people). One member of the party clearly ordered a MEDIUM - RARE steak, when this arrived it had obviously been overcooked. The meat was extremely leathery and was not tasty.

Instead of complaining at the start of the meal to the waitressing staff, we distrectly mentioned it at the end of the meal, and expected our bill to be reduced accordingly.

When the bill arrived there had been no deductions and the restaurant had cleverly ensured the set menu prices did not include the steak options.

A member of the party went to the bar to discuss the bill, and was told the food should have been sent to the kitchen at the start of the meal, and the chef would have dealt with the problem there and then. We did not choose this option as we did not want to make a scene.

The chef was not willing to reduce the bill and his attitude to criticism was unbelievable, considering he runs a small restaurant in a very rural setting.

Needless to say we will NOT be back.
