Best Sewing Machine Ever!
I am a hopeless sewer but this machine lets me sew like I actually know what I'm doing. It sews beautifully on anything (although probably not wood or metal - just saying).
It has great features including many types of stitches, the to flexibility reduce speed for tricky fabrics and many different attachments to make button holes, sew stretch fabric, elastics etc.
One thing I really like is that is a very steady machine. We have about 5 sewing machines and all of them vibrate at full speed, which makes sewing straight difficult. This machine is smooth even at full speed.
My daughter is doing fashion design at University and uses my machine all the time for her fashion projects. Now I will have to buy another one, if I can find one...
The downside for this machine? I need to find another one!

Oh, Brother! Love My Brother Nx400
When I began to take sewing classes two years ago, the shop had only Berninas which were too complicated to thread and run for a rank beginner like me. The instructor steered me to the back of the room, to their one BROTHER NX-400 MACHINE, so I literally learned to sew on this machine.
Last spring, when I stopped by the shop and saw it sitting on the sales floor with a USED: FOR SALE sign on it, I snapped it up and have not been sorry for one second. I LOVE this machine, it is a perfect one to take you from beginner to advanced intermediate sewer.
Pluses are: I have never had a second of trouble with it in any way, it is reliable and responsive and sews and even consistent stitch. It does everything I ask of it, and looks pretty cool too. It is quiet to run and doesn't "hum" when idling.
Things I'd like to see improved: The lighting is poor, not nearly bright enough for me, and the foot pedal is small and tiring to use for hours at a time.
I have fallen so in love with quilting because of this machine that I now long for something bigger, better and more sophisticated, but I will always love it. Thank you, Brother!
I agree whole-heartedly. I LOVE my Brother NX400. I've had it for about 6 years and am also at the point of looking to upgrade. The NX400 has served me very well. It is reliable and has done a first class job for me.

This Is A Good Machine, The Motor Is Not As Strong
This is a good machine, the motor is not as strong as I wish and there is a design error on the bed of the machine.

I Bought The Brother Nx400 Sewing Machine Because
I bought the Brother NX400 sewing machine because I needed one that did more than the basics. I liked the kneelift, wide zig zag and thread cutter, it had lots of stitches to use for quilting, and a wide zig zag I could use for applique. However I am now going to trade it in because it has been back and forth to the menders ever since I bought it 9 months ago. It is not strong enough for the amount of sewing I do.
If you take your machine out two or three times a year then this is a good one for you, however if, like me, you do a lot of sewing look for something else.
