We have owned Peugeot 106's for some years now and have grown quite fond of them We now own a 12 year old 1.1 XN model in blue. The car had done 51k when we bought it and it has now done 93K.
The XN is very basic with no power steering, electric windows etc... It is still an enjoyable car to drive. There is a sunroof, which is a blessing as there is no air con. For a 1.1, the car is nippy and good on fuel. I also owned a 106 Zest 2 and found a problem in both cars, however. I have noticed that the roof material in the back where the hatchback opens, gets wet when it rains. This is obviously some design fault with this make of car. I have used black sealant to try and fix the problem, but to no avail. This is the only really annoying thing as there is not a lot you can do about it in typical english weather. You can expect water to run down and accumulate in the boot so this needs checking if you want to stop mould from forming. Room in the 106 is as expected for a small car and it is time for a change if you are planning a family.
I would recommend this car, though they are not manufactured anymore. You will still get a bargain if you look round.

For a 1.1, it is very fast. I just have induction air filter and performance back box and without it it can go quite well when I put them on. Very quick small car very cheap to insure and petrol with the exhuast and induction air filter im still getting 48 mpg.

A great little car! The Peugeot 106 Zest 2 is stylish to look at, and has a funky colour coded interior to match. It is great to drive around town, and is economical, getting 300 miles on a tank. It is fun to drive around bends as it has great handling. The engine is small but powerful, so it's comfortable driving on the motorway, and overtaking. The engine is quiet, and the car feels strong. The standard fit speakers are also very good if you want to crank up the summer tunes!
As a tall driver (6ft), the seating position can be a bit uncomfortable after long periods, and the rear cabin area doesn't seem to be as well sound cushioned as the front. When driving conditions are wet, you can hear a lot of splashes. It also appears that you can't get hold of rear wiper blades for my model, which is 1999 onwards.
