"ascendancy" Is One Of Those Albums That Has Been
"Ascendancy" is one of those albums that has been proclaimed by some as a beautiful masterpiece, while by others an ugly abomination. I though take the middle-ground or neutral person and would personally call the album purely average. It's nothing new or groundbreaking, by any means I though have to say I do find it enjoyable. The album has some nice guitar riffage, with a distinct thrash influence, solid soloing, and good quality breakdowns.
To be frank though I am not a fan of the screaming vocals on this album. Now don't get me wrong I'm quite a fan of heavier music. I though have to say the screaming on this album is so monotone, lifeless, and generic it's not even funny. The only thing that really maske up for that is the compostion of the instrumental aspects of the album and the clean vocals, which aren't still anything I'd call particullarly special.
Now, "Ascendancy" is one of those albums I have to be in the right mood to listen to. I don't hate any tracks in particular, and there nothing in particular I'd nit pick on regarding the songs, which is a positive thing. They are all okay and flow together, nicely. Some may be better than others to different people. I mentioned my personal favorites in the good points column. So don't misunderstand me, I don't hate the band. Being reviews are opinions, some may like Trivium more than others. Some may hate Trivium or the style they play, while others may love Trivium and metalcore as a whole.
For those who enjoy Trivium you may not like hearing this, and may go on to bash my review, and my taste in music. I though have to be completely honest and say there are thousands of bands who are doing the same exact thing as Trivium. This band is a dime in the dozen. If you like the style or akin Trivium plays I'd reccomend checking out bands such as Killswitch Engage, Kingston Falls, Darkest Hour, Between The Buried and Me, Bleeding Through, Dead To Fall, HORSE the Band, End of Destiny, Botch, Cave-In, Coalesce, and Norma Jean.
So it depends on what you're looking for personally. If you like typical run-of-the-mill metalcore with a little bit of thrash here and there thrown in then give it a spin. If you though have higher standards or simply don't appreciate metalcore/hardcore than you may want to pass. Now I don't regret owning it, if I could do it all over again though I would have bought it used.

Trivium Are The Future Of Metal. Their Latest Albu
Trivium are the future of metal. Their latest album,Ascendancy is jam-packed with screaming vocals and melodic singalong choruses is an essential purchase. Beginning with an instrumental before smashing into the first track this will be a well remembered album. 'Pull Harder On The Strings Of Your Martyr' is an epic and Ascendancy is truly the definition of metal.
I disagree with Mac99 because I don't think it's wise to base reviews on assumptions. Even if a certain audience is attracted to the product, it still doesn't change the fact that people within the metal community will still have differing opinions and tastes. While writing reviews for products I believe in writing them, as you would when trying to describe to an unbiased customer, who has no idea what the product will sound like or be akin to; while still having an opinion. That's just my .02 I though have nothing against you Mac, for challenging my comments.
I disagree with 1984. The review is based on something that only people with a particular interest in would access.
I disagree with this review because...
Mainly because Trivium isn't the first band of their kind. They are a generic melodic metalcore band. I disagree with especially the comment stating they are the "future of metal" they are simply a dime in the dozen and are one of the many bands doing the same thing as quite a few others currently. Trivium aren't bad but this review is simply praising the band way too much, in my opinion. It didn't describe the album or give a review that would help people make a decision. I think it was too opinionated, and one-sided. One has to figure that not everyone has the same tastes than you, and that it's better if you address who will like it and who won't. I don't mind Trivium, and I don't hate the band. For what it's worth the CD is fairly solid, and has it's moments. The point I'm making though is that what they are doing is nothing special, and that the band is flawed, and they aren't as good as this review makes them out to be, in my opinion.
